Ellie is horrified to discover the pharmaceutical company she works for is doing illegal experiments. Company scientists have spliced human and animal DNA, creating exotic new species. One such "experiment" captures her heart and she’ll do anything to save him - even if he hates her for it.
Fury has never known compassion or love. He's spent his life in a cell, chained and abused by humans. The one woman he allowed himself to trust betrayed him. Now he’s free and set on vengeance. He vows to end her life but when she's finally in his grasp, harming her is the last thing he wants to do to the sexy little human.
Fury can't resist Ellie - the touch of her hands, her mouth on his skin, her body wrapped around his. He's obsessed with the scent of his woman. And Ellie wants Fury - always has. She craves his big, powerful body and wants to heal his desolate heart.
But loving Fury is one thing... taming him is another.
Reader Advisory: This story contains the heartrending aftermath of a rape scene involving a captive male. Another scene involves capture and forced touching by a hurt, vengeful Fury.

Reseñas editoriales
The first novel in the New Species series from best-selling erotic romance author Laurann Dohner is by turns suspense-filled, brutal, and steamy.
Ali Ahn, known to New York stage audiences and for her cameo work in television crime dramas, brings an urgency and tension to the story of nurse Ellie Brower. The pharmaceutical company employee discovers to her horror that the company is experimenting with the DNA of what have become animal-humans. That shock is replaced by infatuation with Specimen 416, which brings on first his hatred and then a mutual lust that becomes as much a part of their lives as an ongoing struggle to survive.

Would you listen to Fury again? Why?
No. Narrator actually made me wince at her attempts to portray the secondary male characters.Who was your favorite character and why?
Fury. You can't help but get caught up in his life and the total Hell he went through. How did the narrator detract from the book?
Narrator's female voices were quite good but the male roles were stilted. Her voice for Justice sounded like a robot and the other males sounded more like old women.Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
No.Any additional comments?
Sad to say but I think people will get more enjoyment from the story if they read instead of listen.Great Storyline, Bad narration.

Series Pros: possessive manimals of the canine, feline, and primate persuasion with hairless abs, a love of going down, and a tendency towards exuberant, rough (but consensual) sex.
Series Cons: all fifteen stories feature small, white females with the only slight variation being an occasional curvy girl (who diets and doesn’t own her curves) and one New Species FMC (who is nonetheless white, petite, and the daintiest of all the FMCs). The narrator (aka Sophie Eastlake) is great for the female voices, but has a limited range for the males. She has one or two males voices that sound sexy, but in order to voice all the MMCs for the series, there are many who get either whispery grandpa or gawky teenager voices. This series could have been vastly improved with duet narration.
Other Series Formulas: caricature villains, kidnapping the FMC, the MMCs going commando, her inner
V walls/muscles clenching in every sex scene (seriously … every single scene), the part where he worries about breaking her with his giant member, the part where she marvels at his size …
If you can embrace the formula Rocky Horror Show style, it can be fun.
This book:
There’s awkward dialogue and inner monologues having the characters go on and on rationalizing why going alpha is natural, justified, or enjoyable. He’s all “tell me not to hurt you! Tell me not to lose control!” and she’s all “he’s too big” while fretting incessantly about lusting after him at the same time she’s feeling guilty because she’s done him wrong (even though she didn’t actually do him wrong).
Yet, the cheese worked for me in this one. The strongest part was the beginning, which was dark and titillating. I thought the book was longer than it had to be. This author loves info dumps and characters using ten sentences when one will do. But, at book 1, the formula was still shiny and new, so the camp hadn’t yet worn out its welcome.
A decent start to an uneven series
