It was like seeing a ghost.
When my late husband’s twin brother moves back to our small town, I want to avoid him. Everything about Wes reminds me of the man I lost and the life we’d planned together, and after 18 long months struggling just to get out of bed, I’m finally doing okay. I have a new job, an amazing support group, and a beautiful five-year-old daughter to parent. I don’t want to go backward.
But I’m drawn to him, too. He understands my grief and anger and guilt like no one else - and I understand his. Before long, that understanding becomes desire, and that desire becomes uncontrollable.
He says he doesn't care what people think, and love can never be wrong. But life has taught me its cruelest lesson - love doesn't always win.
If only my heart would believe it.

The frailty of life. The fierceness of love!

This was a deep and heartfelt story of when and how to move on after a shared loss.. but it’s also a story of second chances, hope and new beginnings. Because shy self-conscious Wes had met Hannah, the love of his life, first, had started a friendship with her and had been plucking up the courage to ask her out.. but it was his cocky confident identical twin brother Drew who’d swooped in and claimed her, married her and too soon left her a grieving widow. Now, after years of drowning his feelings working for Doctors Without Borders, Wes returns home.. he offers friendship to Hannah, to lend her emotional support and to be an uncle to his six year old niece Abby. Yes, Wes yearns for more but he’s realistic it’ll never happen. However, after three long years grieving, his return stirs mixed feelings for Hannah.. yes, Wes’ presence reminds her of her late husband and all she’s lost.. but, he also stirs up new feelings too. Their chemistry is intense and it can’t be ignored.. but dare Hannah risk her heart again, is it taboo to fall in love with your dead husband’s twin and will her mother-in-law who already dislikes her interfere? And will Wes finally fight for the woman who has always had his heart?
This isn’t a ‘feel-good’ story.. and yet you feel good at the end of Wes and Hannah’s emotionally fraught anxiety-filled journey that ends with a very sweet romantic HEA. There’s a lot of inner emotional conflict as Hannah’s head and heart wage war on her already damaged psyche and it takes time, wise words.. and more before Hannah, Wes and Abby can finally forge a forever family. The storyline, chemistry, sex, angst and romance was all perfectly paced.. there’s a time to grieve alongside the characters for what they’d each lost, a time to tentatively hope for new beginnings, a time to swoon and a time worry.. but, in the end, there’s a time to rejoice that love overcame all.
Worth a credit? This is a very different type of love story than I’m personally used to.. it’s moody, raw and real.. but there’s light.. and love.. and laughter at the end of this dual POV well narrated addictive love story that had me staying awake til silly o’clock in the morning. And yes, it’s creditworthy if you too are looking for a multi-layered forbidden love story filled with feels.
