Publisher's summary

We live in a culture that's all about self, becoming the best "me" I can be instead of becoming like Jesus. This me-centered message affects every area of our lives - our friendships, our marriages, even our faith - and it breaks each one in different ways. The self-focused life robs our joy, shrinks our souls, and is the reason we never quite break free of insecurity.

In this book, Sharon Hodde Miller invites us into a bigger, Jesus-centered vision - one that restores our freedom and inspires us to live for more. She helps listeners:

  • Identify the secret source of insecurity
  • Understand how self-focus sabotages seven areas of our lives
  • Learn four practical steps for focusing on God and others
  • Experience freedom from the burden of self-focus

Anyone yearning for a purpose bigger than "project me" will cherish this paradigm-shifting message of true fulfillment.

Good but...

Great eye-opening insight. A good amount of it, however, isn't really relevant for younger, single women, married women without children, and definitely not for guys. I ended up skipping chapters because they were so "middle-aged-woman with kids" centered, with some content sounding too close to a "feminist" spirited perspective instead of a "Christ" spirited perspective. So, if this is your demographic then you will love it. But f you are a young adult woman, newly married woman without children (like me), then a good amount of the content won't connect - or may just flat out annoy you. And if you're a male at any stage of life, then you may not connect with like 75% of the content.

Excellent book!

If you could sum up Free of Me in three words, what would they be?

Worth the time!

What other book might you compare Free of Me to and why?

Bait of Satan. Both books are about our self-focus and how we can overcome this way of thinking.

Which scene was your favorite?

The chapter on love and on making God about me.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

no, but I could

Any additional comments?

This is a great book. I didn't realize how self-focused I was until I read/listened to this. I am going through this book a second time a little slower. I want to learn to apply the truths taught in my daily walk.

Life changing

For EVERYONE! This was a total key to recovery. As a self help self critical junkie, this turned it all upside down to help me get to the root of the problems of myself and my life. This will benefit any believer. And regular use would be a wise tool for anyone to deepening their relationship with God and others and self.

Amazing content, a comment about narrator.

I really loved this book. It has so many nuggets and so much insight and wisdom. It's very inspiring.
The narrator had a beautiful tone and lots of passion, but she sounded like she was out of breath a lot. It almost gave me anxiety. She didn't sound peaceful and calm.

submit to God

a lot of times we see a female author and think it's a book for women but this is for any Christian, man or woman, who constantly feels slighted or left out or like they can't keep up.

Really Insightful

I loved the book. It was really insightful and it spoke from the heart of God. As an Applied Psychologist, I love that there was research added to it. I loved the reflection questions.

Most of all, I love that I was able to gain insight that brought me closer to my Lord and Saviour.

It was humorous, informative & life changing!
