Engrossing

Wonderful, engrossing novel from one of my favorite authors. Here she’s woven several very interesting subplots into one murder investigation, all along the way keeping the reader intrigued with tidbits about the usual characters. This is one of her best, in my opinion. I can’t wait for her next novel. And the narrator, Marilla Wex, is superb. Please continue to wow your readers with these delightful characters and mindful plots, Iona! We love you.

A wonderful addition to an excellent series

I’ve enjoyed all the books in the Lane Winslow series, but this may be my favorite. I love how the author infuses her books with a history that is not well known. I hope there are many more books to come from the creative mind of Ms Whishaw.

Worth the wait

Finished the print copy ages ago, so glad to get the audio version. Intelligent and kind cast of primary characters further developed while mystery touching on indigenous issues unfolds. Carefully researched, respectfully executed. Best yet.

Narrator ruins

This book seemed to be a good story. The problem was the narrator who read it in a slightly flat voice with little to no changes for different characters. This was particularly annoying as there are a lot of POVs. I would be listening and not realize that the focus had changed to another character in a different scene. I listened for a while but couldn’t get into it because of this. I returned it.
