This is the way the world ends...for the last time. It starts with the great red rift across the heart of the world's sole continent, spewing ash that blots out the sun. It starts with death, with a murdered son and a missing daughter. It starts with betrayal, and long dormant wounds rising up to fester. This is the Stillness, a land long familiar with catastrophe, where the power of the Earth is wielded as a weapon. And where there is no mercy.

Publisher's Summary
Nowhere is safe. The war rages on in the shadows. A staggering betrayal will prove that no one can be trusted. Lucas, Ophelia, and Elias are on the run, in a chase that spans the far-reaching corners of the globe.
Ophelia remains torn between her two companions. Her powerful gift is advancing at a startling speed and there is nothing anyone can do to stop it.
Lucas uncovers a devastating secret about his mother, while Elias hurries to decipher Alistair’s journals - to find a secure location for the summit that would unite all Pai Ona and turn the tide in the Conduit War.
As events escalate, carefully laid plans begin to spiral out of control, exposing a fierce betrayal. All hope is lost - and all seems to be Forsaken.
Forsaken is the second audiobook in Ashley Hohenstein’s Conduit Chronicles, an urban fantasy series with a taste of romance. If you like Kevin Hearne’s Iron Druid Series and the imaginative writings of Charlaine Harris, then you will love this original series. As you continue the journey into the Conduit world, the stakes are higher, the treachery and loss infinitely more heart-breaking.

Great story!
I love the development of the characters. Though this is book 2 of the series and I think they would be enjoyed in order, this book is self contained enough that it could be read alone without being completely lost. The story doesn't end at the end of the book. It is NOT a cliffhanger, but there are definitely unanswered questions, just like you'd expect in a series of books that build on each other. The action was great, the characters believable, and the story well written. My only complaint is the narrator and the stupid chimes between scenes. It was annoying and startling at times.

Fantastic Sequel
So, after reading and loving book one, I was excited for the opportunity to dive into book two, and it delivered! I loved the easy transition from book one into this book, a letter, which both helped to recap what was important as well as set the scene for everything that would follow.
Not only do things get more intense between the characters, but the plot is much more intense as well. The story takes us to places that both leave you on edge and wanting more. I’m so happy to see that there are two more books in the series after this one.
Even though this is a heavy fantasy book, there are plenty of romance and suspense elements as well which makes this a thoroughly entertaining read.
Narrator did a fantastic job with the story.

Better 2nd Book
This was better than the first. I'll get this out of the way, did not like the love triangle in the first and still feel it slows the story and potential down. Having said that this was a better book, and I did like the first. Narration in perfect!

Curious where this is going
This is the second book I have read/listened to by this author (second of this series) and I am curious to hear how the story ends.
This book also has the chapters alternating between Ophelia, Elias and Lucas. They are now more on the run at the same time as trying to track down the various cultures that Elias believes has clues to the location for the summit to unite their people. Ophelia is coming more into her powers and her relationships with Lucas and Elias continue to evolve. Tension lead them to keep secrets from each other and this becomes evident it is an issue.
There is still the looming reading from the Oracle that Ophelia‘s life is tied together with the continuation of the Pai Ona (gods and conduits).
This is the second book I have listened to by this narrator ( Sarah Sampino). She uses accents when appropriate, and brings out each character’s personality with changes in inflection and delivery. I still got the feeling I was being read to but it was definitely an enjoyable listen.
There is a random chime that is disrupting.
There are no explicit sex scenes, or excessive violence, there is swearing. chime mentioned sexual body parts

Book 2 is even better!
I’m ready for the next installment. Many new characters introduced for me to love. More stories behind these characters to fill my mind with wonder. I love this story! So much action and travel and history. The books world is built and explained so beautifully. The characters are rich and have so much depth. You can visualize each one clearly. You will love them and root for them.
Sarah Sampino is an excellent narrator. She does so many accents and voices so well you will instantly recognize who is talking before it is even revealed.

Another great book. Awesome story & characters!
This second book builds on an amazing start and runs with it.
I was once again drawn in from the beginning. I love the authors descriptive style. It helps to craft a great world and makes the story even easier to slip into. I’m glad that I listened to the first story first because it set me up for this book. Once again we have a great story, the characters continue to be well portrayed and engaging. I really got invested in them and the story as a whole. After enjoying the first book I made sure I had plenty of time to dive into this one. Really good!
Once again excellent narration. I really enjoy the style and the way it beings the story to life for me with the a voice adding dimension to both the story and the characters.
