Though I was born with the ability to see the dead, I struggled with it until my brother was killed and his ghost was left behind. Now, I’m determined to figure out who is responsible for his death…the problem is that Detective Maddox Booker, the one working the case, is a grumpy and stubborn man who wants nothing to do with me and definitely doesn’t believe in ghosts. It doesn’t help that I keep finding myself looking ridiculous in front of the detective, thanks to interfering ghosts who enjoy laughing at my expense.

I go by Crowley, no last name. The Fae took that from me when they tore me from my crib and turned me into a creature of blood and shadow. My kidnappers raised me, taught me magic, and made me their Hound. For years I served them, but a cur can only be brought to heel for so long. I've broken my chains by betraying my adoptive mother, the powerful sorceress Fuamnach. Since then, her assassins have been hunting me - but I’ll cut a swathe of destruction through them if it means gaining back a piece of the humanity they stole from me. Vengeance will have to do.

Minalan gave up a promising career as a professional warmage to live the quiet life of a village spellmonger in the remote mountain valley of Boval. It was a peaceful, beautiful little fief, far from the dangerous feudal petty squabbles of the Five Duchies, on the world of Callidore. There were cows. Lots of cows. And cheese. For six months things went well: He found a quaint little shop, he befriended the local lord, the village folk loved him, he found a sharp young apprentice to help out, and, best yet, he met a comely young widow with the prettiest eyes.

The ancient magic of wizards was anything but dark. It was the enlightenment that lifted humanity from the squalor of superstition, and the worship of fell spirits and capricious gods, but those days are gone. The shining glory of the sorcerers burned away the subtlety of wisdom, replacing it with easy power, held only in the hands of the elite - a new age built upon the elemental supremacy of aristocrats and the ignorance of the masses.

Dominic Hart was screwed. Diagnosed with terminal cancer, no money for treatment, and an athletic scholarship hanging by a thread...he didn't have many options. But the university clinic had offered him a free video game. Some sort of "therapy", they said. A way to while away the hours until he kicked the bucket. Yay. What Dom wasn't expecting was to get swindled by a surly casino owner right out of the gate. Or get dropped in a backwater hellhole voted the “number one worst starting location in Awaken Online".

Publisher's Summary
A necromancer's fear. A family's fate. An ancient spirit with a new alliance.
I shouldn't have told myself things couldn't get any worse. They did.
As Nixie struggles to unite the water witches, the Fae king discovers a spy in his ranks. We're forced to split our focus and our powers between the unrest in Faerie and the rising tensions in Falias. When Nudd's latest gambit puts humanity’s most dangerous weapons into his hands, we can't let anything stand in our way. We'll need help from new contacts and trusted allies if we hope to stop the Fae king's madness.
But the award for worst timing in history goes to an old friend: Vicky.

Ending....
The ending just seemed kinda...unfulfilling and just ended. Even w/ it being a cliff hanger, it still seemed to end un-naturally. I did do the first 6 books as the 3 pack volumes so there is always the chance I didn't notice the cliff hangers there to compare them directly to this one.
Not saying I won't get the next one, The other 7 books have been a 4+.

Disappointed
I’ve listened to all 7 previous books. I ran through the reviews to see other opinions. I was disappointed to see a lot of the reviews were from people given free copies to review the book. I don’t usually write reviews but I just had to let you know how I feel about the way you pasted together this book and the ending. I suppose in a year or so when you get around to continuing the story I will be ready for another beat down!

Another homerun for Vesik!
This is the eighth installment of the Vesik saga, and in my opinion one of the best. The usual cast of characters are enhanced by some new faces, expertly performed by William Dufris. There are the requisite Zola words of wisdom, Sam's total lack of patience with Damian, snark of the highest degree from Foster and FOOD! The twists and turns in the continuing story were quite a surprise, but not at all unwelcome! If you haven't read or listened to these, you have no idea what you're missing. Read! Listen!! Accomplish nothing because you can't stop!! Once again Asher has hit the pinnacle of necromancy/vampire/faerie story telling. Definitely a 5 star production!

Dark
These poor characters! They can never catch a break. War, always war for them. But, waiting for the day that will see them happy and peaceful will surely be the end of an epic series!
I love how this... family, that's what they are, comes together to fight for the good of EVERYONE. It makes things very emotional. We've been through a lot with these characters and they really feel like friends. So much danger, enemies left and right.
Surprising. This book will, for sure, leave you looking forward to the next book.
As always, the narrator brings this story to life in such a way that I can see everything played out like a movie. He brings the characters to life in very visual detail. He's perfect for this series!
