  • Seed Oils, Food Dyes, and Food Allergies: What Actually Matters with Molly Kimball, RD

What topic would you like discussed? Text us!

It feels like everywhere you turn, something else is being labeled as dangerous. Seed oils. Food dyes. Processed ingredients. But for families already navigating food allergies, layering in more restrictions can quickly become overwhelming — and not always for good reason.

In this episode, Dr. Alice Hoyt sits down with Molly Kimball, registered dietitian and founder of Eat Fit, to sort through what the science actually says. They break down what seed oils really are, why not all of them deserve the same bad reputation, where synthetic food dyes are hiding in your food (and your medicine cabinet), and how to know when food restriction is helpful versus harmful.

    Resources mentioned:

    • Chemical Cuisine by CSPI — a free guide to food additives, color-coded by safety
    • Molly's podcast: Fueled (episode on synthetic food dyes featuring food scientist Thomas Galligan)
    • Eat Fit — Ochsner's nonprofit nutrition initiative across Louisiana restaurants, schools, and markets
    • Watkins natural food dyes

  • Xolair or OIT? The better option is...
    Mar 20 2026

What topic would you like discussed? Text us!

The headlines makes it sound simple: omalizumab (Xolair) performs as well as or better than multi-food oral immunotherapy for food allergy. But once you look under the hood, the story gets a lot more nuanced and a lot more real. Fresh from the AAAAI 2026 conference, I walk you through what the new data actually show, why the study design isn't ideal, and what parents should ask their allergist before choosing a path, whether that be with Xolair, OIT, SLIT, or avoidance.
