Publisher's Summary

A retired law enforcement officer turned pilot and a former math teacher chose to leave their home in Texas for a cabin in the wilderness of Alaska. They left life as they knew it behind to start fresh in the land of the Last Frontier. Their cabin on Cub Lake was only accessible by bush plane in the summer or snow machine during the winter, making life challenging. They knew their learning curve would be steep. What they didn't realize was living on a homestead in the wilderness of Alaska would make them face obstacles they had never experienced before.

This new chapter forced them to take every skill that they had learned in their lives to the next level. Hunting, fishing, gardening, and flying would all become key to thriving off the grid. Arctic temperatures and wild animals in the Alaska bush provided countless adventures. These tales may make you laugh, make you cry, and might possibly inspire you to follow your own dreams!

While enjoying the majestic nature surrounding them, they also learned to work together like never before. The two of them have dealt with everything from crazy chickens to bears, and ultimately even looked death squarely in the eyes. Throughout it all, Ann knew there was no place she would rather be than with Shon when he suggested, "Follow me to Alaska".

Boring.

Forced myself to finish this book. Very disappointed that scripture was preached through the story. Narrator’s voice was monotonous which didn’t help a boring story. I’ve listened to many stories about the Alaska wilderness. Loved all of them. I DON’T recommend this book.

An honest, intriguing story that is not Hollywood

The story was an honest telling of personal experience, so removed from the scripted Hollywood yuck that clogs TV screens. I appreciated the Faith and Hope journey as it was (is) clearly a strong part of their survival. This story of surviving up here is so refreshing it is hard to describe. Beyond these measly words is the appreciation to survive in an unforgiving place with the Grace of a loving God (not just physically but personally, in marriage) I hope to read (hear) more stories of what it is like to live in this breathtaking place. Thank you for sharing your story.

It was ok

The author of the book seem to complain a lot to have so much available to her. I’ve known men and women in Alaska do a lot more with a lot less and half the complaining. I also didn’t enjoy the replacement of good men and women’s good nature for something God did. There’s much better Alaskan books to listen to.

Great book

story was amazing and insightful. Only thing I would say bad about it would be I wish it was categorized as religious so I would have a heads up.

Really enjoyed

A really nice honest portrayal of their move. It may not have had the intricacies of the daily life but definitely gave an overarching description. Very enjoyable

I would Follow

This is a great listen for anyone who has a sense of adventure. Ann and her husband shared their story right from the start where life needed to change for them both. they flipped their life literally from living in full luxury .... running water roads supermarkets the usual basics we call them, to shipping what was needed for survival along with a few memories of their past life to Alaska.
The story details their struggles and strength to endure and come out positive and better for the most. You get involved in all their daily tasks and chores and marvel at what can be achieved with the help they get from the strong community who just turn up and get the job done.It takes a special attitude to want to live in remote places with limited resources and to share in the highs and lows of this ongoing adventure was a gift.
