Publisher's summary

Fletch, as unbridled as ever and still living the good life in Italy on his ill-gotten fortune, gets a surprising visit from two surly FBI agents. The pair offers him a deal: either he attend the American Journalism Alliance convention and work as an undercover spy for them, or be shipped back to headquarters and face jail time for tax evasion.

Reluctantly agreeing to the scheme, he catches a red-eye flight back to the States. But just as rubber hits tarmac in Virginia, news breaks on a murder at the convention. The victim - a newspaper tycoon and former employer of I. M. Fletch - was no stranger to enemies. And at a hotel full of reporters who'd all had their dealings with the tyrannical leader, everyone's a suspect.

not as good as the first two

first book was great, second was ok, third was disappointing. About as much plot as an episode of CSI

Great listen!!!

McDonald is an awesome story teller. His books are very clever, and funny. Also, try his "Flynn" series. By the way, McDonald's Fletch is way better than ANY movie Fletch.

Fletch’s crazy insights continue

Fletch attends a journalists conference in rural Virginia. At first he believes he is being coerced into going by the CIA but comes to doubt that. The conference is kicked off by the murder of its president who is stabbed in the back with a scissors. The victim has many enemies among the attendees. Fletch figures out who did the deed in his usual relaxed way. The other characters add a lot of interest as well and there are references to prior stories on the series.

Always love Dan John Miller, but this book is a mess

I love McDonald, and I love the Fletch character. Just wasn’t into this book. Loses what makes Fletch interesting, and there were too many characters to connect a common thread. However, Dan John Miller does such an amazing job, as always. Each character has their own distinct voice - literally!

3rd and 3rd

it's a little hard to tell which book comes after which. fletch left Brazil and is talked into going back to the us to spy on reporters or face the fact he doesn't pay taxes. fletch has lost a lot of his darkside. in the first book he didn't have any problems sleeping with a 15 year old and keeping her strung out for his story. this time around we are told about him helping girls like that get away from a pimp.
what's more interesting is how the news personalities haven't changed from what we have today.

Our Hero Comes Through Again

The best part of any Fletch novel is the narration by Dan John Miller. He delivers a spot on performance and keeps the storyline moving forward. As far as the story itself is concerned, we find Fletch forced into returning to the states at the behest of the CIA. With all the nefarious things Fletch has done from previous novels, it all comes to a head as two reported CIA operatives visit him in Italy revealing they know of multiple crimes Fletch has committed stateside. They blackmail Fletch into attending a major journalist media event with instructions to secretly tape the rooms of the major participants.

This is a very typical Fletch novel full of sarcasm and silliness. As usual, Fletch does come through in the end unraveling a murder committed at the function he is eavesdropping. It is hard to put my finger on it, but I have a hard time staying engaged with the Fletch novels and ready to put them aside. After three outings, I am just not that interested in following Fletch. Others can judge for themselves.

Always amusing

Funny and clever - and at such a fast pace it can be tricky to follow at times. But I enjoy the series.

Another enjoyable Fletch outing

Another enjoyable and easy to listen to Fletch adventure with the usual dry humour and good narration.

I only started the series as I was looking for something between credits. The first one was a bit ropey but three books in I appreciate the simplicity and fun that the series offers.

This time out Fletch is surrounded by other journalists and the story is a bit of a who dunnit mixed with Fletch getting one up in the government as usual.

Nice mindless fun.

Great listen!

A great listen, Fletch has become comfortable living the easy life on the Italian riviera when the secret service come knocking and blackmail him into spying on his colleagues in the press… to top it off, before he arrives at the convention, his former boss is murdered!
Some great characters in this instalment, Chrystal is hilarious!
A perfect easy listening series with laugh out loud moments.
Highly recommend

"Just he right man for the job."

Same old flippant Fletch, this time enjoying life in Italy when two men from the FIB persuade him to return to the USA to attend the American Journalism Alliance and spy for them, threatening to otherwise have him arrested for undeclared taxes. But before He even arrives, a former employer and newspaper tycoon is murdered.
As always, great comedic dialogue, and an excellent performance by Dan John Miller.

Fletch is blakmailed

Fletch receives a surprise visit from special agents that blackmail him into attending the American Journalism Alliance to spy on some journalists. On the day Fletch arrives to the convention, someone murders the Alliance's president and Fletch is one of the few journalists who doesn't have a motive for murdering him.
Flethch's adventures are quite fun and the narrator is pretty good. However, this time there was no real twist or at least I saw everything coming so it wasn't as entertaining as the previous ones. Nevertheless, Fletch is a great character and I am surprised at how well some women are characterised as well. I confess I missed Flynn on this one.

Fletch at his witty best!

Inspired dialogue from Gregory Mcdonald with a strong lead character, even if is a bit stretched at times. Great fun to listen to!
