Publisher's Summary

In File Zero, Agent Zero’s memory finally comes flooding back - and with it, shocking revelations about the CIA’s secret plot to spark a war and to take his life. Disavowed and on the run, can he stop them in time?

When an incident in the Strait of Hormuz threatens to mushroom into an all-out war, Agent Zero’s memory comes rushing back, and with it, a chance to uncover the plot that caused his memory loss to begin with. Discredited, with few friends left, Zero is on his own as he tries to stop the CIA while also saving his targeted family.

Yet as he digs deeper, another, more nefarious, plot comes to surface, one which will require him to trust no one, and to risk it all to save the country he loves.

File Zero (Agent Zero, Book 5) is an enthralling espionage thriller that will keep you listening late into the night.

Jack, do you have to make Agent Zeros girls,

so stupid! I like the story line, but the over all story line with Agent Zero's daughters (in the 5 books series) was tiresome and old. It is like the girl being chased by monsters and falling over and over again. once maybe or twice but it really got to be a distraction to the story. I had to fast forward thru those parts of the AUDIO.

Great series!

I listened to all five books. I hope we hear from agent zero again! I could see a spinoff with some of the other characters too.

Going downhill

The series started off ok, and has been falling behind since the second book. It's made worse by the change in reader since the third book as the current reader is just not nearly as good. Too much voice acting IMO.

The United States Navy has NO battleships in service. A writer should know this and stop referring to mothballed ships as being in service. Some basic research would have solved this issue. Arleigh Burke class destroyers are also not battleships. Moreover it will not require a full flight of Tomahawk missiles to sink a coastal / inland sea patrol vessel. One will do the job.

It is common that authors get their firearm knowledge and terminology wrong. A HK MP5 is not a rifle or a machine gun. It is a fully automatic machine pistol chambering the 9mm Parabellum, a standard NATO round, the same as in the US military issue Beretta self-loading pistol. A SAW is not a particularly high powered automatic rifle although it does have an aggressive rate of fire. An AR-15 is not a fully automatic rifle. That is the civilian version of the military M-16 or shorter M-4 carbine. These all use the same rounds as the SAW, the NATO 5.56. All of these firearms contain their rounds in magazines. None of them use clips. This last point is missed by so many writers, one cannot beat Mr. Mars for it too hard. Again, basic research would have helped.

I fear that early success has resulted in rushing later novels in the series and some rather creative retconning of events in prior novels.

Becoming my favorite author.

I seem to love everything Mr. Mars writes. I even listened to some of his first series twice! Please keep writing.

Narrator not as good as story

This is a really good series. The narrator’s voice for Agent Zero was so unassuming and wimpy it was hard to listen.

Good Story, Bad Narration

I’ve enjoyed this series for the storyline however, the narration needs some work. I swear, it’s like listening to the voice of Casey Kasem discussing espionage with Gomer Pyle. And as for the crew and officers onboard the Constitution… They sound like A northerner doing a bad impression of a southern redneck. I honestly have never written a review here, but I feel this series could improve dramatically with better narration.

Narration sounds like Don Knotts on helium

Love this series but I'm barely into 2 chapters and want to pull my hair out over the narration. These books would do much better with George Guidall or Ari F from the Gabriel Allon series by Daniel Silva.

Top Read by Jack Mars!

I’ve currently read about everything Jack Morris’s room, and I must say that this by far is the best book he has ever written! It’s worth reading each of the Kent Steele novels just to get to this book!

Nice to Finish

Congrats! This book actually had an ending, a good ending, rather than the cliff-hanger paving the way to the next in the series. Thank you. It was a great story and symmetrical. Just a couple of points on details: there are no mountain passes in Nebraska, and you cannot take the back off an iPhone to remove the battery. One can break the back off the phone and remove the soldered battery.

I' m looking forward on how Mr. Mars will develop the character Maria. At one point in an early book, the recovering of Zero's memory was a tremendous damaging risk to her. Keep them coming.
