Publisher's summary

A sweeping epic set in the harsh deserts of Arabia and ancient Palestine.

A war that rages between kingdoms on the Earth and in the heart.

The harrowing journey of the woman at the center of it all.

Step back in time to the year of our Lord...AD 30.

The outcast daughter of one of the most powerful Bedouin sheikhs in Arabia, Maviah is called on to protect the very people who rejected her. When their enemies launch a sudden attack with devastating consequences, Maviah escapes with the help of two of her father's warriors - Saba who speaks more with is sword than his voice and Judah, a Jew who comes from a tribe that can read the stars. Their journey will be fraught with terrible danger. If they can survive the vast forbidding sands of a desert that is deadly to most, they will reach a brutal world subjugated by kings and emperors. There Maviah must secure an unlikely alliance with King Herod of the Jews. But Maviah's path leads her unexpectedly to another man. An enigmatic teacher who speaks of a way in this life which offers greater power than any kingdom. His name is Yeshua, and his words turn everything known on its head. Though following him may present even greater danger, his may be the only way for Maviah to save her people - and herself.

Critic reviews

"The reigning king of Christian thrillers...kicks down the door of biblical fiction." ( Publishers Weekly)
"Dekker (Outlaw, 2013, etc.) makes the spiritual real...descriptions of the Nafud's dangers - think Lawrence of Arabia--are powerfully done, as are his portrayals of the perils posed by the clashing customs of Arabs, Jews and Romans." ( Kirkus Reviews)

Not just fiction!

What made the experience of listening to A.D. 30 the most enjoyable?

This is my first audio book. I have a hard time reading if the light is to low. This allowed me to enjoy the story, without worry of lighting.

What was one of the most memorable moments of A.D. 30?

The mix of fiction and nonfiction. The truth is, the book uncovered me! I found myself truly identifying with the character. I was exposed and put back together by the end. I'm looking forward to hearing it all over again.

What does Ellen Archer bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She brought life to the characters!! It was great.

Who was the most memorable character of A.D. 30 and why?

Honestly, I loved Maviah, Judah and Saba equally. They all had ther own strenghts, that made the story so compelling to listen to.

Any additional comments?

This is one of those books, that I am positive that I will listen to several times.

I loved this book. Can't wait for the sequel. IF you enjoyed Francine rivers "Mark of the Lion" trilogy, you will enjoy this book.

Incredible fiction book with a biblical truths!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, I love fiction books that highlight biblical truths, and anyone else who is the same will love this one!

What was one of the most memorable moments of A.D. 30?

I loved the scene when Judah broke the chains to save Movia from Brutus, but I also loved the scene when Yeshua was first introduced when coming into the courtyard with Phasa, Saba, and Movia!

What about Ellen Archer’s performance did you like?

She was very effective with how each character spoke!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

YES!

Any additional comments?

If anyone loves fictional books with spiritual allegories and biblical truths you will absolutely love this book! The only thing, although it is counterintuitive to the message somewhat, was that I was waiting for Saba to show more action. There was no scene to at least give some demonstration of his strength lol!

Ted Dekker is a phenom!

I love every book Ted Dekker writes, but this may be my favorite so far. I couldn't put this book down one I started listening! Great characters! Great plot! Great lessons from Jesus! Ted must have a special connection to God to be able to tell of God's ways in such a easy to read and understandable way! Thanks Ted!

Another great read by Ted Dekker

I adored this book! I've been a huge fan of Dekker since reading the Prophet and related novels. If you have ever wondered what it would be like to meet and talk with Jesus, this gives you a glimpse into that potential. The characters are ever-changing and real. Nothing is expected, but the results are satisfying and uplifting.

Wow! You have to read this!

I am already a fan of Ted Dekker but I had not read any of his novels in quite some time. As is his usual fashion, he is splendid at keeping me fully engaged to the very end! I cannot seem to put his books down. This is a history lesson even though it is written in a fiction format. An awesome read!!!

Fresh telling of Christ's story

A beautiful and compelling story that takes the listener back in time to AD 30.
Opens the door to looking at the time and message of Christ from a new perspective.

thought provoking

This story made me ponder how the average non-Jewish person might have reacted to Jesus. Although the concept of a Messiah would be unfamiliar, perhaps they would be more willing to accept His teachings without trying to fit them into a preconceived notion.

Great inclusion of Historical and Biblical data

The author does a wonderful job of keeping this story entertaining, while maintaining Biblical, and historical accuracy. The story is based on historical events that are well documented, and these facts and events are added to in order to create the story from one woman's point of view. What I find amazing is the level of historical accuracy makes the entire story seem as an autobiography instead of a riveting work of fiction
There are many references to quotes from the Bible, as well as historical events, yet the author weaves them into the story with a skill seldom seen in historical fiction.
I also feel that this book captures the true heart of Jesus of Nazareth, and portrays His teachings with not only skill, but also a very clear understanding of His words.
I cannot wait to listen to the next installment which is AD 33
