Life isn’t about “finding” fulfillment and success - it’s about creating it. Why then has creativity been given a back seat in our culture? No longer. Creativity is a force inside every person that, when unleashed, transforms our lives and delivers vitality to everything we do. Establishing a creative practice is therefore our most valuable and urgent task - as important to our well-being as exercise or nutrition. The good news? Renowned artist, author, and CreativeLive founder, Chase Jarvis, reminds us that creativity isn't a skill - it's a habit available to everyone.

Many famed music producers are known for a particular sound that has its day. Rick Rubin is known for something else: creating a space where artists of all different genres and traditions can home in on who they really are and what they really offer. He has made a practice of helping people transcend their self-imposed expectations in order to reconnect with a state of innocence from which the surprising becomes inevitable. Over the years, he has learned that being an artist isn’t about your specific output, it’s about your relationship to the world.

Think of The War of Art as tough love...for yourself. Since 2002, The War of Art has inspired people around the world to defeat "resistance"; to recognize and knock down dream-blocking barriers and to silence the naysayers within us. Resistance kicks everyone's butt, and the desire to defeat it is equally as universal. The War of Art identifies the enemy that every one of us must face, outlines a battle plan to conquer this internal foe, then pinpoints just how to achieve the greatest success.

Story
Creative work doesn't come with a guarantee. But there is a pattern to who succeeds and who doesn't. And engaging in the consistent practice of its pursuit is the best way forward. Based on the breakthrough Akimbo workshop pioneered by legendary author Seth Godin, The Practice will help you get unstuck and find the courage to make and share creative work. Godin insists that writer's block is a myth, that consistency is far more important than authenticity, and that experiencing the imposter syndrome is a sign that you're a well-adjusted human.

His ability to adapt to change was demonstrated when he became the executive producer and star of Power, a high-octane, gripping crime drama centered around a drug kingpin's family. The series quickly became "appointment" television, leading to Jackson inking a four-year, $150 million contract with the Starz network - the most lucrative deal in premium cable history.

Begin before you're ready.
Renowned designer and professional hell-raiser James Victore wants to drag you off your couch and throw you headfirst into a life of bold creativity. He'll guide you through all the twists, trials, and triumphs of starting your creative career, from finding your voice to picking the right moment to start a project (hint: It's now).
Bring your biggest, craziest, most revolutionary ideas, and he will give you the kick in the pants you need to make them real. No matter what industry or medium you work in, this book will help you live, work, and create freely and fearlessly.
Here are some dangerous ideas:
The things that made you weird as a kid make you great today.
- Work is serious play.
- Your ego can't dance.
- The struggle is everything.
- Freedom is something you take.
- There ain't no rules.
Take a risk. Try them out. Live dangerously.
More praise for Feck Perfuction:
"In James Victore's new book, he unequivocally proves why he is the master he is. In every chapter, he challenges and inspires the reader to reach for more, to try harder and to create our best selves. It is a magnificent and momentous experience. (All true)." (Debbie Millman, Host Design Matters)
"James Victore got famous creating tough posters that shook me to the core. He now does the same using the written word. To you." (Stefan Sagmeister, designer)
Critic Reviews
“There are five books that are so important in what they have to say that I gift them to others. Now, there are six.” (David Hieatt, cofounder of The Do Lectures and Hiut Denim Co.)
“In James Victore’s new book, he unequivocally proves why he is the master he is. In every chapter, he challenges and inspires the reader to reach for more, to try harder, and to create our best selves. It is a magnificent and momentous experience. (All true.)” (Debbie Millman, host of Design Matters)
“Over the past decade, James has served as a constant reminder for me to have the courage and the audacity to be my weird self. Feck Perfuction is a beautiful case study into why so many of us have found our life’s work when we are our most authentic and when we get comfortable with being our most uncomfortable. Ignore this book at your peril.” (Harley Finkelstein, COO of Shopify)

Egh
When I read the description for this book I was excited to get into a work that would flip convention on its head and inspire me to take action in a new direction, now after listening to it, I feel stressed out that I didn’t get many actionable items or next steps and I don’t feel any more inspired. This book was a long list of one liner thoughts that were accompanied with minimal explanation or actionable advice. I have listen to a couple books recently, each by different authors, that had much fewer chapters, sub-chapters, or listed main ideas, but walked the reader/listener through questions to ask themselves and items to pay attention to, that resulted in tangible new strategies, progress tracking, and change. This book was disappointing.

I was very exited to read this and was really disappointed. It felt like an aggressive pep talk, and I didn't find any advice useful. It had lots of great catch phrases but stayed on the surface and didn't went in deep to discuss the themes. And a lot of unnecessary swearing in my opinion

A life changing weekend book.
I’m a 20 years experience talented designer and after a long journey of success and failure, trying to relaunch my career after a break to start a family of 4, I got the pleasure to listen to this book over the weekend while dish washing and folding clothes. It’s full of mind blowing ideas and truth that we never face ourselves with as creatives and artists. For anyone who wants to enjoy a bold true bright future this book is for you. I love it that Victors is narrating the book himself which makes sense knowing him. It could not be anything else.

Couldn't take anything from this
I really wanted to like this but couldn't, the narration of the audio book is so over the top that I found it difficult to listen to. It may work better as a hard copy it or may not as it is quite superficial. Possibly good for a young teenager audience?

When Derek Sivers started CD Baby, he wasn’t planning on building a major business. He was a successful independent musician who just wanted to sell his CDs online. When no one would help him do it, he set out on his own and built an online store from scratch. He started in 1998 by helping his friends sell their CDs. In 2000, he hired his first employee. Eight years later, he sold CD Baby for $22 million. Sivers didn’t need a business plan, and neither do you.
