Publisher's summary

If the radiation doesn't kill you, the survivors will....

Dakota and Logan continue their treacherous journey to escape the city, but danger threatens at every turn. They must avoid uncontrollable fires, unstable buildings, and deadly fallout contamination.

Dakota knows of a place to ride out the coming chaos - a safe house deep in the Everglades. If Logan helps her rescue her sister, she'll take him with her.

But Dakota's past has caught up to her. Amid the radioactive ruins of Miami, someone is hunting her. And he won't stop until he has her...or they're both dead.

Featuring fast-paced action and strong, complex characters, the Nuclear Dawn apocalyptic survival series is perfect for fans of Harley Tate, Bobby Akart, Jack Hunt, and Grace Hamilton.

Please note: This audiobook is suitable for older listeners due to mild language and moderate violence in the story.

This is a great and interesting story

most of the time I don't get into apocalypse type stories or bombs wiping out civilizations but this book captured my interest from the start. I highly recommend this series.

Radiation survivors

"If the radiation doesn't kill you, the survivors will." This is the main message of this book. Dakota Sloan is on a quest to reunite with her younger sister, Eden, after the United States has been attacked by at least 13 nuclear bombs. After holing up with other survivors to avoid the worst of the fallout, Dakota decides that the time has come to find Eden.

She is joined by a group of survivors who have come to rely on her knowledge of surviving the aftermath of a nuclear attack. The group includes a former convict, a religious bartender just wanting to find his wife, and a nursing student. As this motley crew tries to make their way across Miami, they encounter some not so savory characters in the form of a gang called the Blood Outlaws. They soon find out that when dealing with these types, it's basically kill or be killed.

The author continues to uncover the back story of the characters like peeling an onion. This seems to be pretty realistic to me since the group is thrown together in the midst of a disaster. As their stories are revealed, the reader begins to find out what makes them tick and what motivates them in their behaviors. The writing is well-done and keeps the reader's attention throughout the book. One thing that kept me reading is wanting to find out what happened to Dakota and Eden in their life prior to the nuclear attack.

The story is fast-paced and the characters begin to grow on you as you read. Of course, I expect that not all of them will survive since this is a post-apoc book. The ending is once again a sort of cliffhanger, but the reader should be aware of this since there are currently 5 books in the series.

The narrator, Stacey Glemboski, does a great job. Her pacing is perfect and her performance added a lot to my listening enjoyment. I was given the chance to listen to the audiobook version of this book by the author and chose to review it.

What a story! Gets even better as it progresses!

Fear the Fallout (Nuclear Dawn, Book 2) by Kyla Stone and narrated by Stacey Glemboski is a thrilling second book to the series and I’m loving it! Recommend if you’re looking for something in the post-apocalyptic genre, something new and will hold your attention, a shorter listen, or if you enjoyed the first book.

The book beings with the characters making their way to rescue Eden. They continue to deal with the fallout and the world running amok. We learn more of everyone’s past including the sister’s time spent with Ezra and how things came to be. The story once again being told from Dakota, Eden, Logan, and Maddox’s point of view.

The narrator, Stacey Glemboski, was great. Easy-to-listen-to voice and a good pace.

Overall, I’d recommend, especially if you’re looking for a new post-apocalyptic series. I listened to this one straight through- very difficult to put down.

Parental guidance/trigger warnings: Similar warnings as the first book- fallout and death from the nuclear bombs, foster system problems (abuse), alcoholism, gangs, guns, violence (what you’d expect if the world fell apart), past abuse that the sister’s suffered at hands of a religious organization (beatings or similar type of abuse), religious fanatics (minimal preaching).

Fear the Fallout

This is a fantastic series that is fast paced and action paced. With twists and turns. This read grabs me right from the beginning to the end, its a real page turner, that has epic scenes that you can see in your minds eye as you listen. And the Narrator does a Fantastic job as well. The characters just jump right off the page as you listen. The Author has done a fantastic job at bring the characters out and at World Building This series is right up there with The Hunger Games and Divergent. This would make for a fantastic movie series.

Great Story

Great story with lots of interesting scenes and problems to solve. I feel that the main character is over the top with her one mindedness. Also the emotions were way to thick in the last chapter hope they get toned down a bit. Also hope the male characters get a little love in future editions.

This series keeps getting better!

This second episode of the Nuclear Dawn series provides much needed backstory into Logan and Dakota, while following the group’s exploits in their quest to rescue Edin and head to the safe zone. Once again Ms. Stone has packed this story with very believable scenarios and action. While reading this series on one level I realize it is fiction, but the scenarios the characters encounter leave me wondering how long it would take for residents of a city to devolve into a dog-eat-dog mentality after some apocalyptic event.
