Excitement at every turn of the page!

Kyla Stone continues to empress me with this storyline!!! I was on the edge of my seat listening to Dakota’s journey to rescue Eden. Each character is developed in a way to either make the reader cheer them on or hope they find justice.

Stacey Glemboski has moved her way into my top 5 female narrators!!! She helps the listener feel emotional along with the characters and the trials they face.

Book 2 in the 'Nuclear Dawn' Series

'Fear the Fallout', book 2 of the 'Nuclear Dawn' series, ramps up the action and suspense from book 1. In this book, Dakota and the group of survivors with her, are still on the mission to rescue her sister, Eden. All the while, knowing that every minute spent still inside the 'hot-zone' of radioactive fallout is putting everyone in danger of radiation sickness. They also face dangers from desperate people and the devastation left from the bombing.

There is some great backstory given for Dakota and, to a lesser degree, Logan. We start to understand more fully what drives them and makes them the survivors they are. There is also more from Maddox's POV, which I like because there was way too little of him in the first book.

Again, there are small foreshadowing clues about the origin of the nuclear attacks. We also get more information about the extent of the attacks and how the nation is coping. We have yet to find out if these attacks are going to be the breaking point for the nation, but it is still early days.

The book covers only a few hours of time, but it has a better sense of completeness than the first book. The end feels like a natural stopping point. The next book will be better for that by the feeling of a new phase of the story beginning.

Stacy Glemboski has once again hit the narration out of the park. She infuses every character with the personality that Kyla Stone's writing conveys to the reader. The delivery is so emotional I got teary-eyed a few times.

The book is well-researched. Every action sequence and dramatic scene well-written. I was riveted the entire time and look forward to listening to the rest of the series.

This is my voluntary opinion of this audiobook. I was given a free review copy of it after I made a request to receive one.

Highly recommended.

A harrowing take of survival

Kyla Stone continues the story of Dakota on her desperate drive to find her sister Eden. The flash back scenes help reveal the tragedies that shaped two lives. The continued character development helps bring personality to the motley band and adds to the depth of the story line. Following everyday individuals through a post nuclear event is gripping and keeps the reader on the edge of their seat. looking forward to book three in audiobook.

I love this book! It kept my attention immediately and didn’t let go. The narration was wonderful. The speaker has a good, steady cadence and is easily understood. I have both read and listened to this story, both versions are great!

Great Story

Great story with lots of interesting scenes and problems to solve. I feel that the main character is over the top with her one mindedness. Also the emotions were way to thick in the last chapter hope they get toned down a bit. Also hope the male characters get a little love in future editions.

The Author doesn’t shy from the grittiness..

Enjoying this series a lot. Great to see more layers added to each character. The world-building is really on point, you feel for the characters and the people involved in the event. The Author doesn’t shy from the grittiness, the harshness.

Couldn’t wait to listen to this one

I was really looking forward to listening to the follow up to the first book, as I really enjoyed it and I was not disappointed. We follow the survivors on their perilous journey through a post-nuclear bomb city. I really enjoy the narration~the narrator really captures the emotions of the characters. Definitely will listen to the next instalment.

Fear the Fallout

Fear of Fallout is just as exciting and action packed as Point of Impact. It held my attention from the beginning of the story all the way to the end. I can't wait to start on book 3. Stacey Glemboski does a great job bringing this story to life. I received this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review.

The World Has Ended But The Tension Never Dies.

The first thing people new to this series should be aware of is this book follows on directly from Point Of Impact, the first book of the series. You could jump in here but I would say it’s definitely best to read book one first. Dakota and Logan and co. are back and still in great danger following the detonation of a nuclear bomb in Miami. The threats to our group are greater than ever as they face down armed thugs and crazed survivors as well as the ever present threat of radiation poisoning. While trying to deal with all that Dakota just wants to get to her sister Eden. Kyla Stone does a masterful job of keeping the story moving at a good pace while at the same time never letting the tension drop. We also get more of Dakota and Eden’s backstory too learning how they came to be where they are. There’s great character development of all the characters and we see what each person is really made of. What really strikes me about these books is the frightening plausibility of it all, it’s unnerving at times but great reading. I can’t wait to find out what happens next.
As with book one Stacey Glemboski does a wonderful job bringing Dakota to life. She really embodies the fear Dakota is experiencing and relays it to the listener. At the same time the other characters are similarly well performed, each with their own distinctive sound. This narrator has to be up there with the very best. Both the story and the reading are excellent and I recommend them both highly.

Dakota continues to be her badass self

The second novell allows us to continue Dakota's journey (together with her group) to reach her sister. The story is just as good as the first installment and Kyla Stone manages to keep me up listening way past my bed time once again. The narrator is excellent and well suited for this story with all its characters. I can't wait for the next book!

Engaging sequel to Point of Impact

If the radiation doesn’t kill you, the survivors will.

Forty eight hours have passed since the catastrophic nuclear attack which targeted thirteen major cities in the US. Now that the radiation levels have lowered somewhat, Dakota, accompanied by Logan Shay and Julio, set off on a treacherous journey to rescue her sister Eden.

As they trek through the radioactive ruins of downtown Miami, they are horrified at the scale of the devastation. Bodies as well as wounded civilians trapped under unstable buildings with no help from the authorities forthcoming. Lawlessness is rife, with those taking full advantage of the situation by looting and killing those who stand in their way. When a small team of first responders fall foul of the Blood Outlaw Gang, Dakota and Logan must use their wits to help them. With Maddox closing in on Eden however, will Dakota reach her in time?

Fear the Fallout is the second riveting post apocalyptic survival book of the Nuclear Dawn series. Once again the author has delivered a well executed, tense and compelling instalment. I was particularly impressed by the wonderful vivid and stunning imagery used by the author to describe the scale of the destruction in the wake of the attacks. I felt like I was there with the survivors, experiencing the sights, smells and sounds. The stench of decomposing corpses in the blistering heat, coupled with the smoke from still burning buildings and cars. The agonising moans and cries from those trapped, begging for release through death.

The strength of the book lies in its exceptional character development. Each character showed real depth and substance. While the first book set up the world building, the second book delves deeper into Dakotas and Eden’s past, chronicling their escape from the Shepherds of Mercy as well as their first encounter with the reclusive Ezra Burrows.

We learn more about Logan’s struggle to deal with the demons of his past. His guilt and self loathing at the innocent lives he took, only relents when seeking solace in a bottle. Several times he’s required to step up in the book and at first he’s unable to do so. It’s only when Dakota is in real danger that he comes through and earns her respect. We also learn more about Maddox and his reasons for needing to bring Dakota and Eden back to the Compound. Having fallen out of favour with the Shepherds of Mercy as well as his father for allowing the girls to escape, he hopes to be welcomed back once more.

As the book progresses, there is a subtle change in the group dynamics. Dakota and her fellow survivors may have started off as strangers but it becomes apparent along the way that they have bonded. While everyone looked to Dakota for guidance in the first book, this time it’s Dakota who will need the help of her friends. I’m looking forward to reading the next instalment of this engaging series.

I received an advanced free audible copy of Fear the Impact and I am voluntarily reviewing it. Stacey Glemboski has once again delivered a dynamic well paced performance. Her style of narration throughout both instalments has been exceptional, making it easy for listeners to distinguish between each character, particularly the male voices.
