Story
They can never be together. The notion is laughable. Humans are inferior, a scourge on the Fae and on the magic passed down to them by angels millennia ago. And if Keen finds himself drawn to the tiny human female, he keeps it to himself. He won't add to the half-breed problem that threatens his people's existence.

It began on New Year’s Eve. The sickness came on suddenly, and spread quickly. The fear spread even faster. Within weeks, everything people counted on began to fail them. The electrical grid sputtered; law and government collapsed - and more than half of the world’s population was decimated. Where there had been order, there was now chaos. And as the power of science and technology receded, magick rose up in its place.

Knowledge is power. That would be the motto of Lander University, had it not been snatched up and used to death by others long before the school was founded. For while Lander offers a full range of courses to nearly all students, it also offers a small number of specialty classes to a very select few. Lander is home to the Hero Certification Program, a curriculum designed to develop students with superhuman capabilities, commonly known as Supers, into official Heroes.

Story
I wouldn’t say my life is a dumpster fire — but it’s far from typical. I’m frenemies with the local werewolves’ Alpha, my clients are shady as hell, and my magic falls firmly in the WTF category. Mephisto, my mysterious and powerful client, is more interested in my magic than the jobs he’s hired me for. And I’m pretty sure my court-ordered therapist thinks I’m an ass.

Publisher's Summary
Elena Rosales has busted her ass to get into a good college. She's the only one in her family ever to attend, and expectations are high. No pressure. But Elena's got this one in the bag, because she's as dependable as the molecules she studies, as reliable as the chemical reactions that comfort her in their predictability - until they don't.
Elena has always wondered why her mother abandoned her on her first birthday. It's not until she turns 18 and her chemistry experiments go berserk that she learns the truth: Her mother wasn't human, and the Fae are willing to harm those Elena loves if she doesn't use her power over the elements to cure them of a deadly disease.
Derek, Elena's brooding neighbor, isn't the friendliest guy, but he has access to an off-hours lab and is willing to help Elena create the antivirus. He has his own secrets to keep, and this business Elena is mixed up in could blow his cover. But when Elena and Derek get together, more than chemicals spark fire - and they soon discover just how complicated attraction can get when they find themselves on the other side of the portal, fighting for survival. Lives collide and allegiance and love are tested in Fates Divided.

Nope
I am on chapter 1 and I’m not going to bother finishing. Within the first 10 minutes the heroine immediately wondered if the hero was a racist simply because he wasn’t “wordy”.
I’m making an assumption here but it seems this book was written by someone who is NOT a person of color. Being one, I don’t assume that when I haven’t communicated clearly what I need that the other person‘s lack of response is because they have an issue with my race. The hero made no micro aggressions, no snarky words, no condescension or anything that gave the impression that the guy had an issue with her race. So that was red flag number 1.
Next, since when does Latina automatically mean Mexican in the first place? And how would the hero have known her origins just from looking at her in the first place when the writer made it very VERY clear that her skin is very very light, which is problematic in itself.
Then she goes on to pass lots of judgment about him in regard to how smart he is, his background, etc. So within the first chapter the heroine is race centered, not very well spoken, judgmental and condescending *eyeroll* all while judging the complete stranger she’s asking for help.
This book could’ve used a sensitivity read. Done. Returning it as soon as I finish writing this review.

This book should be good. But the main character is so passive and limp. She doesn’t speak up for herself. She’s boring and allows others to push her around. I wanted to like this book but 2 hours in and I just cannot finish it.

Hmm
I listen to the first 3 hour and then skip to the end about 1 hour and 45 minutes I feel the author knew this was gonna happen because there is a whole entire recaps of the book at the end.
The story for me is 2 1/2 stars
Narrated Elizabeth was excellent she did a great job with all the different character she had to take on.
I am going to finish this series but I have a feeling I’ll do the same that I did with this book to the second book I felt like it was just going on and on and on about the same bloody thing I mean seriously it doesn’t have to be that long of a book you could’ve made it shorter eight hours or less.

I tried
I got to chapter 30 before I just couldn't do it anymore.
I got sick to death of hearing "he gave a MAN shrug, a MAN, nod, spread his legs like a MAN".
Then the main character gets highly offended at everything.
She randomly thinks a guy is racist, why? No idea. Then a guy points out her roommate brings home men all the time but that was offensive too.
The girl is weak, the guys are pathetic. Why does every guy in this book easily manipulated? They always staring at her boobs .
I finally just had to stop for my sanity.

Not great
This book was rather meh for me, The story could have been interesting if the main character hadn't been so annoying. She was weak, whiny and pathetic, not great qualities in a main character.
The narration was okay - except for the American obsession with mispronouncing Elena - and writing was decent.

a show stopper of a start of series
Where does Fates Divided rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
this is my third favourite series
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I was able to laugh at some points when the characters were making jokes but also able to feel the emotions of the characters too,
Any additional comments?
What a beautifully written paranormal story. it totally got my attention from the start and the transformation for both Elena and Derek was presented in such a way that I could picture it in my mind. the plot was well thought out and moved at a good pace for me. a lot of terms were used that I was not used to but it didn't hinder and was easy to pick up. looking forward to fates entwined.
