With the help of friends, new and old, he buys just the right boat to live on and soon starts a part time charter business. Everything is going smoothly, until a Carolina girl and a hurricane hit him at the same time.

Danger lurks in the sleepy little town of Marathon, in the middle of the Florida Keys, as well as in the swamps of the Everglades. But danger doesn't expect to run into a man like Jesse. A man who will not only respond swiftly in facing it, but with a vengeance unexpected.

Excellent storyline

My dad introduced me to John D. MacDonald and the Travis McGee series when I was a teenager. I often re-read the entire series. I'm glad to finally have an author that writes in the same style with a very engaging storyline!

Story line

An amazing book! I loved listening to it while working long hours, I can’t wait to continue reading these books.

The hero is just too perfect

This first in the popular Jessie McDermott series provides the backstory and introduces the hero. It's told in the first person (think Travis McGee) and takes place in the Florida Keys, where I lived for twenty years. Those two features attracted me from the start. But I'm turned off by stories like this, where the hero is a retired Marine sniper who carries a virtual armory in his charter boat, quickly learns to navigate by the stars, and immediately is a big success with his charters. He beats up some nasty bullies with a high kick and some elbow chops in a bar fight to rescue two beautiful women. And so on. I quit after a third of the book. If this is how you like your heroes, have at it. I prefer mine to be a little more normal.
