Publisher's summary

A brilliant story of adventure, wit, and philosophy from the origins of the Spellslinger series to enrapture devotees as well as newcomers alike.

New to the ways of the Argosi, the tribe of wandering philosophers who seek to defeat evil by wit and guile, Ferius Parfax encounters a hideous plague - the Red Scream. Highly contagious, caught by the hearing of a deadly verse, it turns its victims into mindless monsters that destroy all human life they come into contact with. With the help of a deaf boy whom she has saved from two horrifying victims of the plague, Ferius sets out to find the source of the Red Scream and overcome its terrifying power. Along the way she is joined by another Argosi, Rosie, who purports to be much wiser and more adept than Ferius, but who turns out to have her own dark secrets.

Now THAT Was A Story

Riveting, imaginative storytelling with a complex and compelling female protagonist brought to life by the talented Kristin Atherton. Fingers crossed that de Castell has more Argosi tales yet to tell.

Loved it!

I really enjoyed hearing how Ferius started out, this was a fun ride. And now we know how Rosie fits into her story

A masterclass in character

Anyone who’s read the original Spellslinger series probably goes into the Argosi trilogy with a very particular idea of who Ferius Parfax is. Only, she couldn’t be more different at the start of Way of the Argosi.

Sebastien de Castell does an amazing job in Fall of the Argosi by really starting to bridge that gap from first introduction Ferius (Spellslinger) and her much younger, much harder, Way of the Argosi counterpart.

I thought the plot line of this was really interesting and I like that way different religious beliefs were incorporated. I thought there were really powerful conversations about how easily things can be corrupted, even if that isn’t the intention. Not only does it help strengthen Ferius but it also does a great job showing the difficulty (and diversity) of the Argosi path. There’s so much to think about and unpack here it’s incredible.

I absolutely adored the original series but this trilogy is quickly becoming an all time favorite.

Felt like it was written for me

How else can it be said. This is the story I needed right when I needed it most.

furius and her path

this was a ride from start to finish, where the villain isn't technically the villain. Furius is just a girl walking her unknown path, and what she finds and what she becomes and what happens around her from the end of chapter one and on... just amazing. I've seen other find this dark, but I see it as de Castell stretching his legs, and he's running! I need another for her path is a wild one!

Too dark

I love this series with the exception of this book. The story is way too dark for my taste. Next time I relisten to the series I’ll this one.

moves into woke

I read this author to escape... this book jumps in and tragically takes a young traumatized and vulnerable child and makes them sexually fluid...
