Publisher's summary

Against the peaceful night sky, a barn burns.…

Sarah Kauffman sought permission from her church elders to paint murals on a few of the Amish community's barns. Each was designed like an old-fashioned quilt square, representing a piece of the Amish traditions Sarah loved. The works of art were intended to draw more tourists to the Home Valley in the struggling economy. But instead, they invited a menace. One by one, each barn is set ablaze and destroyed.…The arson fires spread fear through the community - amongst Amish and Englischers alike. Now Sarah wonders if she's being punished for her pridefulness…or whether there's a more malevolent will at work.

As an outsider, arson investigator Nate MacKenzie struggles to investigate the crime scenes while adhering to Amish ways. With Sarah as his guide, he warms to the Plain People and their simple ways. As the fires rage, beliefs are challenged, a way of life is questioned and family secrets are exposed. In the aftermath of the destruction the people of the Home Valley must join together to raise their barns and their hopes for the future.

Keeps you guessing

I really liked this story in that it keeps you guessing! Although the "bad guy/girl" didn't come out of the blue, there were so many possible suspects that you just didn't know who it was going to end up being!

Also, the author did a very good job at weaving a believable main character and making you unsure just how the story was going to end because of the conflicts going on in her life.

My only wish was that we could have seen more of it from Nate's perspective so we could get to know him a bit better. We did see a bit, but it would have been great if there had been more!

Interesting series

It was wonderful learning more about the Amish. They are such an inclusive group and yet very loving. I truly enjoyed this book and will purchase the other two books in the series.

Loved it.

If you could sum up Fall from Pride in three words, what would they be?

Wholesome, interesting, surprising

Any additional comments?

This story inspired me to research and bake half moon pies.

Sweet and innocent

Any additional comments?

Sweet... maybe a little too sweet. The ending was predictable midway through the book but I still listened to the end. The writing is pretty good and the story is quite slow paced but is in keeping with the Amish lifestyle.
If your looking for action and adventure... this isn't the book for you. However... if your in the mood for relaxing and innocence then it's perfect.
I did enjoy the book, in spite of the drawn out innocence and nativity of the main character.

Good Story

Story was good. It was a little sluggish at times. The performer made it difficult at times to determine which person was speaking. All in all it was a nice book. I will continue the series.

meh

I liked the story, but I couldn't get over the narrator's crappy fake accent. The characters are Amish. Pennsylvania Dutch. Not vampires from Romania.

Good Amish Mystery

Any additional comments?

The Audible version of Fall from Pride by Karen Harper was a good listen. I always enjoy an Amish mystery, and Fall From Pride was no exception. In fact, the characters and mystery seemed more real than in other Amish mysteries that I’ve read. I imagine that the inclusion of some modern ways and attitudes might be more reflective of Amish life in 2015, although I don’t know if that’s true or not. In any event, Karen Harper wrote an engaging mystery that I thoroughly enjoyed. Definitely a good listen!
