Young tackles these challenges directly with time-tested advice - get to know your team, forgive yourself for mistakes, make time to clear your head, lead with a firm hand but remain compassionate to your colleagues, customers, and counterparts. Young meshes together older management ideas from Stephen Covey and Dale Carnegie with modern workplace success experts like Adam Grant and Csikszentmihalyi in a brilliant book that is just what the doctor ordered during a time of rapid transition in the workplace.
Young uses meaningful personal anecdotes to show how management is a personal craft which requires practice and flexibility. She mentions good ideas to improve your focus and inner calm, but she doesn’t pretend that all of our problems can be solved with meditation or the next wellness craze.
