Publisher's Summary

We all dream of the forbidden, but some of us make those dreams come true....With the same mystery, menace, and intensity as her Vampire books, Anne Rice's

Exit to Eden explores the forbidden by taking us to The Club, a vacation paradise where no aspect of sexual pleasure is taboo. Just as The Story of O shocked the '60s by speaking aloud about what had only been whispered, Exit to Eden gives voice to the sexual secrets of the '80s.

Critic Reviews

"Bold and erotic, laced with luxury, sexual tension, music...dazzling in its darkness....There are times when Mrs. Rice seems like nothing less than a magician. It is a pure and uncanny talent that can give voice to monsters and angels both." (The New York Times Book Review)

butchered the story

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I've loved exit to eden for a long time and after listening to the preview of Gillan Anderson reading it I was happy to buy it. But then I started to listen to it. I was disapointed to find that any of the S&M parts seems striped from the book, any thing that wasn't conventional boy girl vanilla sex had been cut from the story. Why did they bother making an audio book? I was fine with a few things being shaved off, it was abridged, I hoped that meant they would focus on the main romance, I didn't relies that meant what washing over the really good bits! So disappointed.

Took too much out.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

They took too much out in making this abridged. It seems to skip and just becomes a romance novel.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Can tell the storyline was good, but again, too much missing.

What happened to the rest of the book!

This recording is a mere shadow of the original book. There really should be some warning that these are like crib notes of the original text. Entire sections and multiple chapters were omitted. I feel totally ripped off. From now on it will only be whispersync as that is forced to at least be true to the prose. I feel badly for anyone buying this recording thinking they are hearing the actual book. Totally disappointed!

Not the full story

I was very upset to find after downloading this book to find it was an abridged version. That being said this is one of my favorite stories and the way it was edited completely took away from everything the story is about.

missing important things

Such a shame they removed so much of this book. Important scenes were removed that were key to making this story flow, of course Gillian Anderson did a fantastic job, but I wish she was able to read the whole book. Not a extremely shorten version.

Very disappointing abridgement

Would you try another book from Anne Rice writing as Anne Rampling and/or Gillian Anderson and Gil Bellows ?

This abridged version is really bad! Totally changes the original into a limp romance novel. I'm returning it as soon as I can fire up my computer!

Has Exit to Eden turned you off from other books in this genre?

No, it's not the genre or the author,

Did Gillian Anderson and Gil Bellows do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

Yes

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Exit to Eden?

None of them. Or at least nothing that changes the whole book so totally.

Any additional comments?

I regret having listened to this weak, thoughtless version. If it was worth doing, why not do it well?

This is not just abrisged, it us eviscerated!!!

Audible should be ashamed to even sell this horrible facsimile. This is NOT the whole book, or even the better part. This is the SECOND time that a book by Anne Rice has been so egregiously cut.

This is short version

What would have made Exit to Eden better?

This is a shortened version of the book. I was not aware when I purchased and I do not see the full version available.

How could the performance have been better?

This is a shortened version of the book. I was not aware when I purchased and I do not see the full version available.

Absolutely horrible

Awful abridgement of a great book. I read this probably 20 years ago and was excited to listen to it on a road trip. This hatchet job of an abridged version didn't even make sense, there were so many holes. I read the reviews when I saw that the length was only 2 hrs which seemed weird, and all of them said it was bad... I should have listened. Total waste of 2 hrs, don't bother with this trash.

Censored audio version?

It's been a few years since I read this book. Love the story. I recall some scenes from the book that I did not hear on the audiobook. Was it censored?
