Story
Amid the dizzying rides, tantalizing games of chance, and fanciful attractions of a state fair, two teenage sweethearts on the cusp of life and love's pleasures find their way to a shadowy carnival tent brimming with curiosities. There, from the bizarre and enthralling Gypsy Mummy, a mechanized merchant of dreams and prognosticator of tomorrows, the young couple learns what fate promises for them. A master storyteller at his best - the O. Henry Prize winner Stephen King delivers a generous collection of stories, several of them brand-new, featuring revelatory autobiographical comments on when, why, and how he came to write (or rewrite) each story. Magnificent, eerie, utterly compelling, these stories comprise one of King's finest gifts to his constant fan. "I made them especially for you," says King. "Feel free to examine them, but please be careful. The best of them have teeth."

Entertaining!
I enjoyed it. The stories we're interesting and kept my attention. They were just long enough to deliver an unexpected surprise ending in some cases.
For the haters that wrote the negative reviews: First, learn how to spell. It validates your complaints. Second, If you don't understand foreign accents, get out of the house more. It's a diverse world out there.

Great collection with one exception
Nearly at the end of this excellent collection, but wanted to comment on the dreadful narration of Val Mcdermids story. Unfortunately it features Carol Jordan and Tony Hill., and the narrator has ascribed dreadful unsuitable accents to both, and is not a very good at male voices. What a shame.

Dreadful
I think I know how a teacher feels now when they have to read through the creative writing essays of a class of GCSE students. I got to about a third of the way through before deleting the book, every story was terrible and I just couldn’t take it anymore. Save your money and the time it takes to listen to this because although you might be able to get your money back you’ll never get the tone back that you wasted.

Don't waste you time
Short stories which don't have any pretence at literature should have a twist at the end, particularly when they are marketed as mysteries.
There is no twist in most of these, just a feeling when you get to the end that you have wasted your time listening. Who curated these stories and decided they were worthy of inclusion? I'm returning the title with about half still unlisted to.

Interesting and thought provoking short stories.

I feels like each of the authors contributed a tale they didn't want to put any more work into so most of the tales feel incomplete or unpolished . Still you shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth.

Great short stories
Sometimes you just need a short story fix & I thoroughly enjoyed all of these little crime stories with a twist. Great for in between jobs, knowing the end won’t take too long. I’ll be looking out for more of these. Thank you to all the authors.

Some good, some ok, some not so good
A great idea of compiling short stories. Range of quality in the stories, but all were well narrated.

Story
Death is a topic Bradford Douglas is intimately familiar with. The young attorney is on a crusade against capital punishment. He’s saved a number of death row inmates, but none of his cases has been as tough as the one he now faces: Henry Combs, a vicious serial killer, has only hours to live when Douglas is summoned for a Hail Mary attempt to have the man’s sentence commuted to life imprisonment. As Douglas races to pursue whatever strategies he can think of, he finds his passion for justice giving way to something altogether different. An obsession.
