Publisher's Summary

Few pastors or Christian writers have dared to approach the subject of how proper eating and an active lifestyle can affect how we serve God. Author Gary Thomas does just that. And he reaches all the way back to the apostle Paul, who wrote that we need to prime our bodies to become, "an instrument for noble purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work."

To illustrate the body/soul correlation, Thomas presents engaging and diverse stories that include a young mom who got fit through volleyball and reaped spiritual rewards in her marriage, a 300-pound pastor who realized his obesity was eroding his ministry impact, and a woman who gained the spiritual strength to survive a contentious divorce by training for a marathon. In every instance, Thomas makes a direct connection between the physical challenge and its spiritual consequence. This book is a must read for anyone seeking new and compelling motivation for strengthening their bodies and fortifying their souls.

Wow, what a challenge! Thank you.

This book is awesome! It made me take a good hard look at myself and see that I can't give up, I can't just accept where I am. I can be healthy and honor God and finish the work He has called me to do. Thank you!

I have a love/hate for this book

This is a book about two sins that I have NEVER heard addressed in church: gluttony & sloth! If the information presented wasn't hitting me in the forehead it was punching me in the gut! I needed to hear this! So does everyone else but I cannot control what they listen to or read.

A powerful dive into pursuing holiness

A powerful dive into pursuing holiness over indulgence. Taking a hard look at the recesses of our hearts and coping mechanisms which draw us away from God, namely gluttony, sloth, and other sins that are common in our lives and acceptable in our Christian communities. The value of exercise in your pursuit of holiness.

A call for Christians to run the race

I recommend this book to anyone who has struggled with their weight for years like I have. Those of you who have yo-yo dieted, and who feel like they’ll never get victory in this area. Trust me, I had given up completely when a friend gave this book to me. There’s no sugar coating or fluffy inspiration in this book- In “Every Body Matters”, you’ll find a strong, biblical driven pursuit of godliness, that will compel you to be all that you can be for Christ & Christ alone.

a stretch

excellent points and a great challenge to think differently about physical health, but it may have been a stretch to make some of the scripture fit the narrative. Even so, I will listen to it again because I need to change my thinking about food and fitness.

Priceless

Yes. Yes. Yes.

I’ve struggled with my body image and weight my whole life. As a 20-something female that’s not too long. But, I’ve seen the destruction thinking wrongly about exercise and food has left in my parent’s life and I yearn to walk a different path.

This book has allowed me to view my physical body through the lens I should have been all along- the Gospel.
