Publisher's Summary

In a dark world where humans are little more than fodder for vampires, Caleb is looking for a break...even if that break means he has to become Liam's plaything. When he gives up his freedom, Caleb's training begins. Will obedience and pleasure go hand in hand in his new life as Liam's puppy?

This peek into the Fate of the Fallen/Status Quo world is a stand-alone out of the time line of both series. This book contains puppy play. I consider it "playful dark erotica".

A perfect blend of story and narration.

I love how this story unfolds. It gives you a look at the world created as you get to know the characters. Still think Liam needs a little work but I can see if he gets it right, this being a good fit for both. Maybe a little help is in order.😉

Hot and cute

I really enjoyed this story and it left me wanting more! Caleb was such a cute puppy, defiant in his own ways. Where Liam seemed to need that kind of puppy to become a good owner. Looking forward to more from this author!

M/M sexy

vampires. Magic. Humans as play toys. A little BDSM submission thrown in. You wind up with one sexy book

I wanted to love this narration...

I love the story, I really do not like the narration. The performance left a lot to be desired. Pauses weren't long enough and the inflection fell short. I listened to this story to and from work, I got so irritated by the narration that I almost turned it off and DNF.

Puppy Play

This is slightly different to other "puppy play" books that I have read in the past. A little on the dark side, but not overly dark. The nararator did a decent job, so no complaints there.

Dark & Hot

Read the book first and then listened to the audiobook. I enjoyed both because R. Phoenix can write dark kink like nobody's business. Hot kink too. Highly recommend! The narrator's interpretation of Liam's voice was a little weird but that's just me.

A dark story

In a dark world where humans are no more than prey or slaves for the supernaturals who rule, Liam, a powerful vampire, is looking for somebody who excites his hunting instincts... And he finds the perfect target in Caleb, a young and rebellious human whose blood tastes like ambrosia... Decided to keep him and train him as his new pup, Liam will soon be surprised by Caleb's unexpected reactions...
I've enjoyed this dark universe quite a lot, the story is interesting, and JJ Jenness narration makes it even more entincing, working the characters' idiosincracies through clever changes in accents and intonations. I really enjoyed his performance
A short very intense and fascinating story!

Deliciously dark!

I've had this book in my TBR for a long time. It's very different and darker than what I'm used to reading/listening to, though, so I've been wary of reading it. I loved R. Phoenix's "Too Close", though, so even with all the warnings, when I had the chance to listen to Puppy, I decided to take it.

Puppy is a dark read, dub-con bordering on non-con—which considering Caleb is pretty much the human slave of vampire Liam is not that difficult to fathom—and yet, even when Liam is pretty much forcing Caleb into being his new puppy, Caleb retains a bit of his spirit and a semblance of control, especially nearing the end. I really liked the chemistry between Caleb and Liam and how things played out between them as they explored their new dynamics. It was hot, dark, wicked and playful, and did I mention deliciously dark? Because it was.

This audiobook is short, barely an hour and 41 minutes long, and it was, well, the story was awesome, I was pulled into this world and actually enjoyed being in it, despite whatever misgivings I might have beforehand. Now, while I found the narration enjoyable, I wasn't too sure that JJ Jenness was the right 'voice' for this book. He has a nice and pleasant timbre, but it's too monotonous for a book like this. Still, it was good. Could it have been better? Yes, but I still have no trouble recommending this audiobook.

PUPPY

It is very entertaining with a great story and narrator. It was short enough that I was able to listen in one sitting

Leaves you wanting just a bit more.

Okay so this is a short paranormal story (which was great for my car journeys) where humans are now at the low end of the class system. Caleb, thought he was protected but is found, Liam is a vampire who finds Caleb and after a taste finds his blood intoxicating and decides to keep Caleb as a puppy.
I enjoy this story and really wish there was more.
Here is the but part of the review, I really did not like the narrator, he sounded like he had a blocked nose and his accent for Liam sounded like a certain Austrian actor with the catchphrase of “I’ll be Back” it totally put me off..
I will probably go and read the book to get my own voices for when I read the next one in the series..

Puppy

I liked the story right from the start, even though the world is not fully explained you quickly learn that humans are no longer the top of the food chain. They are food, or pets, if they are lucky.

Enjoyable story

Liam a 500 yr old vampire goes into the slums and finds Caleb a human who tries to kill him. Liam decides he would like to keep him as a pet and makes him pretend to be a puppy. Short and cute. 1st time narrator for me I found it sounded more like he was reading then performing but that is just my opinion
