Episode 3: DJ D-Nice

De: Michele Norris
Narrado por: Michele Norris
  • Resumen

  • Talented multi-hyphenate D-Nice reflects on his humble upbringing in the Bronx, from sleeping on a couch and a motel desk to becoming a world-renowned DJ. D-Nice also discusses the pain and beauty he discovered in himself and others during the pandemic. Additionally, we hear how he found grace in his mother’s cabbage.

D-Nice is an American DJ, producer, and rapper. He was famously a member of hip-hop group Boogie Down Productions in the late ‘80s. In 1990, he released the self-produced single “Call Me D-Nice,” and later an album with the same name that reached number 75 on Billboard’s Top Pop Albums chart. He then became a high-profile photographer, shooting album covers for Pharoahe Monch and Kenny Lattimore. He has continued to DJ big events, including Obama’s 2012 inaugural ball. In 2020, he created the virtual “Club Quarantine” party on Instagram Live, which attracted over 100,000 viewers every party (where he would DJ and encourage people to be kind to each other and wash their hands). He is currently writing his memoir A Nice Life.

Perfect timing

What a beautiful episode that I just listen to on a Sunday and Tawn practicing gratitude. So appreciate the vulnerability, and the reflection with empathy that was shared.
