Episode 2: Gayle King

By: Michele Norris
Narrated by: Michele Norris
  • Summary

  • Television titan Gayle King reflects on her and her mama’s tight-knit relationship, including her upbringing in Turkey and then Maryland. Gayle famously doesn’t cook, but she shares not one, but TWO recipes with us: her mama’s traditional mac & cheese and her famous Thanksgiving Jell-O dessert.

Gayle King is co-host of CBS Mornings, where she interviews top newsmakers and delivers original reporting to CBS Mornings and all CBS News broadcasts and platforms. She is also editor-at-large of Oprah Daily and hosts the live, weekly radio show Gayle King in the House on SiriusXM.

Since joining CBS News, King has conducted revealing, news-making interviews with world leaders, political figures, and celebrities, including former President Barack Obama; Secretary of State Mike Pompeo; Bruce Springsteen; Dave Chappelle; Dylan Farrow; Chris Rock; Elon Musk; Billie Eilish; R. Kelly; and Michelle Obama and her mother in their first TV interview together. She also conducted the final interviews with Representative John Lewis and Cicely Tyson before their passing.

In 2018, Gayle was inducted into the Broadcasting & Cable Hall of Fame and in 2019 she was selected for the TIME 100, Time magazine’s annual list of the hundred most influential people in the world.

Loved them all, except

Every story told had special stories both in and out of the kitchen. After listening to the stories I opened an “Instagram” account so I can follow! Gayle King on the other hand didn’t talk about stories of she and her family in the kitchen. I will definitely listen to all them again not GP’s though. Can’t wait for the next episodes to come out!!!

The Ancestors Are Smiling 😊

I’m in love just from the first episode. It’s something that reminds me of being a kid and surrounded by my elders and cousins. Oh the joy of food and fun.
It’s beautiful when you listen to something and you feel seen and heard. No explanations needed:

Not all mac and cheese are created equal (Let the Church say AMEN 🙏🏿)
