How to Be Like is a "character biography" series: biographies that also draw out important lessons from the life of their subjects. In this new book - by far the most exhaustive in the series - Pat Williams tackles one of the most influential people in recent history. While many recent biographies of Walt Disney have reveled in the negative, this audiobook takes an honest but positive look at the man behind the myth. For the first time, the book pulls together all the various strands of Disney's life into one straightforward, easy-to-listen-to tale.

The myth of innovation is that brilliant ideas leap fully formed from the minds of geniuses. The reality is that most innovations come from a process of rigorous examination through which great ideas are identified and developed before being realized as new offerings and capabilities. This is not a book by designers for designers; this is a book for creative leaders seeking to infuse design thinking into every level of an organization's products or service to drive new alternatives for business and society.

Outdated but still interesting
A lot has happened since this book was written, so a few of the examples of things Disney does very well are sadly no longer available anymore. This makes for a rather poignant listen, at times, and a reminder of the "good days" when things were smoother sailing for the company.
The first part of the book deals with the story of Walt and the Disney company. If you have read anything about this before, you probably won't learn anything, but it is still interesting to hear. However, every once in a while something was said that I know isn't correct - and I notice that the authors quote Mr Gabler's Disney biography which is known to include many incorrect facts. In the same vein, the authors sometimes would reference an author (or two) that has now been discredited or is no longer considered a reliable source.
The second half of the book deals with more current events at the Walt Disney Co, but as I mentioned the book is now a little out of date so these are the chapters that I found harder to get through without comparing them to how things are these days. The focus on entrepreneurship is of course still valid although at times I had to remind myself that the authors were more than just superfans, but were trying to teach us something. Their positive enthusiasm is palpable and every once in a while, even a little too much (and I say this as a shameless Disney superfan).
I also found that the reader was mostly good but did keep mispronouncing the names of some well-known people in Disney's history. This was rather annoying as it wouldn't take much to get these facts right. Overall though it was an entertaining listen and I would recommend it, but with the caveats that I mentioned above.

Story
Imagine what Atari might have achieved if Steve Jobs had stayed there to develop the first massmarket personal computer. Or what Steve Case might have done for PepsiCo if he hadn't left for a gaming start-up that eventually became AOL. What if Salomon Brothers had kept Michael Bloomberg, or Bear Stearns had exploited the inventive ideas of Stephen Ross? Scores of top-tier entrepreneurs worked for established corporations before they struck out on their own and became self-made billionaires.
