Publisher's Summary

Like so many American women, Shauna M. Ahern spent decades feeling not good enough about her body, about money, and about her worth in this culture. For a decade, with the help of her husband, she ran a successful food blog, wrote award-winning cookbooks, and raised two children. In the midst of this, at age 48, she suffered a mini-stroke. Tests revealed she would recover fully, but when her doctor impressed upon her that emotional stress can cause physical damage, she dove deep inside herself to understand and let go of a lifetime of damaging patterns of thought.

With candor and humor, Ahern traces the arc of her life in essays, starting with the feeling of "not good enough" which was sown in a traumatic childhood and dogged her well into adulthood. She writes about finding her rage, which led her to find her enduring motto: enough pretending. And she chronicles how these phases have opened the door to living more joyfully today with mostly enough: friends, family, and her community.

Listeners will be moved by Ahern's brave stories. They will also find themselves in these essays, since we all have to find our own definition of enough.

So far best book of 2020

I am so grateful that the author chose to wrote this book and share so much about her Journey to becoming a confident powerful phenomenal woman. I'm so grateful my daughter will grow up with authors like this to learn from to admire to reference when times are tough. Her honesty her humility her caring way of explaining deeply tender moments in her life had me rewinding and replaying over and over again.

I can’t thank you enough

Reclaiming my life & womanhood is a difficult daily journey after it was taken from me by physical and S abuse as a small child & into adulthood— I’m so grateful that you shared your stories so generously with us and that, because you reached out, I was able to listen to your essays at a time when I so needed them. Thank you for the reminder that I’ve always been enough & that it is truly possible to heal.

Incredible , uplifting and inspirational story

I first heard of this book on my favourite podcast the guilty feminist. As soon as I heard Shauna talking and reading a bit of her book I bought it instantly.
What an amazing life story and has given me lots of inspiration and motivation to carry on. You are missing out if you don't read it.
Shauna, you might not read this review. But if you do, I would like to say that you are amazing and have overcome things that other people would have never done. Thanks for sharing your wonderful story.

Amazing story well narrated

This was a brutally honest book with some heart breaking details. I really enjoyed listening to it but I wish there was more. It feels unfinished

So glad to have read it

My goodness this book is wonderful. In listening to it I feel healed of some of my own wounds. Shauna Ahern shares her story with candour and an open-armed sense of welcome. And always, there is good humour and optimism and a relishing of life.

Thank you, Shauna.
