Publisher's summary

A Scalpel Wielding Villain.

A Healthcare System that Fails.

A Whistleblower that Protects Her Patients - No Matter the Costs.

A trusted anesthesiologist, Dr. Roxanne Roth, is healing from the loss of her fiancé by consuming her time with work. It doesn’t hurt that her new love interest, Dr. Justin Kirkland, spends almost as much time at the hospital as she does.

Entranced in the throes and complications of new love, Roxanne looks forward to work every day. Her time at the hospital would almost be cathartic if not for Dr. D. K. Webb, a neurosurgeon, who is quickly amassing a pile of complaints - and bodies.

Despite trying to avoid Webb, Roxanne finds herself working alongside the doctor during a routine, low-risk surgery. Fueled by cocaine and ego, Webb intentionally sabotages the case, leading to the patient dying on the operating table.

Roxanne’s tenuous grip on recovery is shattered with her patient’s death, quickly replaced by anger and a drive for justice. Now Roxanne will do anything to protect her patients from the killer on the other side of the sterile surgical field - before he can silence her as well.

In this gripping, sinister medical thriller, Dr. Shira Shiloah will leave listeners wondering about the potential evil lurking behind every surgical mask.

Mediocre story, horrible narration

Ok - so who thought it was a good idea to have a female with a British accent do male voices from Memphis, TN? The narration here is horrible - from amazingly unprofessional editing (clearly there are parts that are re-recorded that have different sound quality and make it sound underwater) to having a narrator who is not very good at doing varied female voices, let along doing male ones. Sorry, but the men all sound like they were interviewed on a farm some where.

Then, the story. Mediocre at best. To have someone make it through all those years of neurosurgical training, some of the most demanding in the world, and THEN show themselves to be a sociopathic, drugged up killer? It would have shown up way, way earlier.

And hospitals don’t just give out privileges to a doctor in another state on a whim. There is a usual 45-60 day vetting process that occurs and you almost always uncover privileges at other hospitals, and, if they are not on the application, it is grounds to lose your license!!

The only thing that saves this book and let me be able to finish it at all with the horrible narration is a great character in Roxanne, interesting and (mostly accurate detail) about the anesthesia parts of it, and the loyalty the boyfriend (whose name escapes me).

Ok for a listen but be prepared for horrible narration.

Suspenseful and fun!

I loved listening to EMERGENCE. The story is quite good with lots of twists and turns. I felt truly wrapped up In their stories and could feel myself becoming emotionally involved. The author, Shira Shiloah, writes wonderfully and tells a great story. The narration by Simone McIntyre was perfect! Don’t miss this one!
