From USA Today bestselling author Naima Simone comes a new scorching dark mafia romance in The Hunted Kingdom series in which a modern-day Cinderella must fight against the stepbrother who inherited her legacy—but he wants more than just the family empire: he wants her.

He’ll burn it all to keep her.
Her fire will consume his soul.

Today, my father gave me the perfect gift: he died.

But he left my legacy, the multibillion drug empire, to pure evil—my stepbrother, Asad Prince.

Petty even in death? Two can play that game.

As the last Cross, I’ll leave it all behind. And I will have the last laugh too: I’ll take the formula for the drug I created with me.

It’s the perfect plan until Asad makes his final move—marry him, or everyone I love dies.

A deal with the devil. Until he reveals his secrets.

His obsession might have always been my freedom.

Now, Asad might rule with fire.

But I'll light the match.

This is my first read/ listen with this author. The storyline was great. I was irritated with the FMC inner dialogue and not enough dialogue between her and the MMC. The narration was on point and usual with these two.

Good story but too wordy

I actually enjoyed this book! I won’t say it was predictable right away but further down the story line things became a little more predictable but still very well written.

Good one!

If you've read Naima Simone before, then you already know... she doesn't miss. 🔥 This mafia romance was absolutely top tier.

An emotional enemies-to-lovers story where nothing is quite what it seems. Every time I thought I had it figured out, the story proved me wrong.

And Asad... whew, child. 😮‍💨 That's all I'm saying because I'm not about to spoil a thing.

Mafia romance 💙

The story was solid. My biggest issue was the MMCs constant use of “Ma” when he’s a dude from LA. That’s more of an east coast thing.

As far as the performance the MMC also leaned heavy into a voice that sounds like he was trying to put on his version of Ghost…it would take me out every time.

Now even with that I enjoyed the story overall. To me it was like a fairy tale retelling themes wise.

It’s way too much internal dialogue. Like it’s overk*ll. It was more internal dialogue than interacting between the MFC and MMC. I found myself skipping (+30 seconds) most of Ember’s chapters because I was like “GET TO THE POINT”. You legit get lost between what’s her thoughts vs. when she’s talking to someone. Then she has these thoughts in 1st person at random times so you’ll think she was ACTUALLY talking to someone, whole time it’s her in her head 😒. For what the story is, it’s good, yet the author did TOO much internal dialogue than interacting. Myles and Trei, were definitely top tier - it’s the writing that doesn’t warrant 5 stars. Worth the credit….. ughhh yeah but get ready to listen to Ember talk to herself for 10hrs. Happy listening 🙃

Good…. But
