Ulfenkarn is a city of nightmares. Its vampiric rulers have indulged their bloodlust in every shadow-clad alley, turning the once-proud metropolis into a charnel house. Already crushed beneath the tyranny of Radukar the Wolf and his Thirsting Court, a spate of vicious murders plunges the mortal inhabitants into fresh terror. Emerging to uncover a connection between the attacks is an unlikely group of heroes: a vampire hunter from Carstinia; a slum-born vigilante; a ruthless wizard; and a soldier who is the last survivor of her noble bloodline.

Within this book you will find Hammerhal, a fantastic new novella from Josh Reynolds: Dark forces stir within the bowers of the mysterious Hexwood. A great warhost of Tzaangor beastkin, creatures devoted to Tzeentch, the Architect of Fate, defile the once verdant lands of Ghyran. All that opposes them are the noble Stormcast Eternals of the Hallowed Knights. Reforged in resplendent sigmarite and wielding the lightning of Azyr, few can stand against these heroes. Also within this book is a host of awesome short stories giving you a flavour of the many warring armies that exist within the worlds of Warhammer Age of Sigmar.

really enjoyable, once I got used to the style
I must confess, I am both a big fan of the age of Sigmar game and literature, and Josh's work especially. I enjoyed reading the first of the Eight Lamentations novels, so I was looking forward to listening to this. And overall, I really enjoyed it.
However, I have to say the lack of narrator with the choice to have the characters describing what was happening was a little jarring and felt a little juvenile at first. A nice attempt at something new, but it didn't work for me. but that is the only critique to get out of the way.
the story itself was awesome. I legitimately felt a little anxious for the characters at times and the ending also pulled on the heart strings for me. after listening to the interviews at the end, I decided to listen again and found it very satisfying. a fun listen, very well performed too.

Needs work.
A good audio drama but Black Library have stopped using a overall narration to help tell the story and relies on the characters to say what they are doing which leads to some very unnatural dialogue with characters talking to them selves spelling out what they are doing. I think the Black Library team should take a listen and take note to the Scarifyers series (so should you if you haven't yet) which also doesn't use a narrator but does it so much better. The Story is good with our hero's held up in a abandoned settlement besieged by a pack of werewolves. The running time isn't taken up by story itself and has a interview with the writer and cast at the end.

Exciting and kept me on the edge of my seat.
This is a reasonably fast-paced drama. There is excitement, tension, suspicion, horror, and cleverness. I was able to take a great deal of enjoyment from this despite not yet reading Spear of Shadows, the first instalment for the Eight Lamentations. I understand that J. Reynolds is no longer working for Black Library and it is unlikely that this series will be further expanded upon, but seeing the characters and story quality from this drama has encouraged me to go over and enjoy these stories nonetheless.

Sweet and Short
Overall well acted and written story!
Minor spoilers below.
As the story does not have a narrator the characters needs to constantly describe what is happening to them. I found this to sound a bit stilted and unnatural at times, but other than that the actors did a superb job bringing the text to life.
The chemistry between Volker and Zanna grants the story some much appreciated flavour. As the grudging camaraderie between the two is explored, it brings something that has previous installations in the AOS universe has failed to deliver. I sincerely hope that Black Library will continue to bring us stories with these kind of elements in the future.
The end twist was a bit obvious and heavily hinted towards from the start of the story, but it was not played up too much, so it didn't bother me when it finally was revealed.
If you're interesed and have come this far (especially if you are a fan of AOS), I would recommend you give this audio drama a listen!

Story
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Story
The world has changed. Now, when someone is murdered, they almost always come back to life—and there are professionals, called “dispatchers”, who kill in order to save lives, to give those near the end a second chance. Tony Valdez is a dispatcher, and he has never been busier. But for as much as the world has changed, some things have stayed the same. Greed, corruption, and avarice are still in full swing.

Story
It’s not easy making the career jump from office-supplies-store middle manager to heroic interdimensional adventurer. At least, Jason tries to be heroic, but it's hard to be good when all your powers are evil. He’ll face off against cannibals, cultists, wizards, monsters...and that’s just on the first day. He’s going to need courage, he’s going to need wit, and he’s going to need some magic powers of his own. But first, he’s going to need pants.

Story
Zachary Quinto - best known for his role as the Nimoy-approved Spock in the recent Star Trek reboot and the menacing, power-stealing serial killer, Sylar, in Heroes - brings his well-earned sci-fi credentials and simmering intensity to this audio-exclusive novella from master storyteller John Scalzi. One day, not long from now, it becomes almost impossible to murder anyone - 999 times out of a thousand, anyone who is intentionally killed comes back. How? We don't know.

Story
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

When an experiment to study quantum uncertainty goes spectacularly wrong, physics student Bill Rustad and his friends find that they have accidentally created an inter-dimensional portal. They connect to Outland - an alternate Earth with identical geology, but where humans never evolved. The group races to establish control of the portal before the government, the military, or evildoers can take it away. Then everything changes when the Yellowstone supervolcano erupts in an explosion large enough to destroy civilization and kill half the planet.

The odds are not only stacked against him, he was designed not to win this fight. Maybe he can salvage some faint memory of the civilizations that inhabit the galaxy, but those beings are doomed.
