Publisher's Summary

From a number one best-selling author: a fresh and funny romantic mystery series about a witty, down-to-earth heroine with a job you've never seen before....

Being an undercover poison taster for the rich and famous might sound glamorous, but for Isobel Avery it means stomaching bad clients and even worse coffee. The one side of the job that lives up to expectations is the money. Which is just as well for Izzy, since she needs an awful lot of it. Who knew when she made a lifelong commitment to a man that it would be one year living with him and the rest of her life paying for it?

But even her scoundrel ex-husband doesn't look so bad compared to her new client. He's competent, condescending, and annoyingly attractive, and Izzy doesn't know whether to sleep with him or poison him herself. Throw in a loan shark, a nosy neighbor, and a murder attempt, and Izzy will have her work cut out for her.

Perfect for fans of Camilla Chafer, Jana DeLeon, Janet Evanovich, Stephanie Bond, Julie Moffett, and JB Lynn.

Great!

Loved:
-The character's unique job, very clever.
-The Australian narrator; this is one of the rare books that are better listened to than read.
-The pacing was perfect. I have a short attention span and this kept me engaged.
-I couldn't tell who the murderer was.
-I liked our lead characters.

I would caution anyone though who is a bit conservative. There isn't much language, but sexual innuendos are often. There is no sex scene, but there are two foiled rape attempts that made me uncomfortable, so I skipped to the rescue portion. I really enjoyed it overall though and would recommend it.

I love this series!

The first in the series Eat Pray Die is a fun cozy mystery built around a truly unique premise. Who knew the Hollywood rich and famous needed taste testers? Izzy has moved from Australia to SoCal for an urgently needed job. Conner is her hunky boss, Arthur her roommate, Meow the cat, Mr Black the enforcer and Etta the spunky elderly neighbor (who I’m convinced is ex-CIA). All are delightful and add to the fun. Can't wait to listen to the other books.

FYI, for those who have listened to the original Eat Pray Die audio book the biggest change is that the characters finally have their proper accents. It is well worth a second credit.

Ouch! Put this series out of listeners' misery!

Audible - pls put this series out of listeners' misery! Painfully shallow and cliched. I will be requesting a refund!

Food snob investigates crime- boringly

If it’s going to be a cozy, the dialogue, setting or plot needs to cook. But, other than the Australian accent, this is milk toast bland. Even the cat has a boring name (Meow). Also, the premise of Isabel becoming a super spy food taster in eight months defies credulity. The summary says fans of Evanovich or Deleon will like this, and this is similar, although less funny or substantial as the Stephanie Plum or Miss Fortune series. If you can get these on sale, the series does improve to delightful, if always implausible and on the short side, cozy fun by book 3.

For a funnier, “average girl gets mixed up in danger,” cozy adventure, I recommend Camilla Monk’s Spotless series, which has books 1-4.5 in a single credit omnibus. Island is a plucky tech gal who tangles with a British assassin with OCD. It’s also got some great accents, and way better action, dialogue, plots, and quirky, cozy fun.

A New Twist for a Series

This is a unique, bizarre, fascinating concept for a heroine/series. I found all 6 on sale and took a leap of faith. I am so glad that I did. I look forward to number 2! I enjoyed the narrator as well.

Amusing mystery

As a 70 year old male I am probably not the key demographic for this novel which is a cross between a mystery, a comic novel and a romance novel but it was an amusing if contrived storyline. I doubt I will be a series avid reader but if you are in the intended demographic I can imagine you would find this and the follow on novels of great interest. Well performed and a clever premise.

A new idea!

Ok, I have not come across a poison expert before. This is a light, but very interesting mystery, with my favourite narrator (she has a lovely voice and speaks normally, with no wierd pauses, inflections or emphasis - why do other narrators do that? It is beyond irritating!)
I thoroughly recommend this book. I have just downloaded book 3, so it is all good so far.
