NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER * SOON TO BE A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE * “Reads like Apollo 13 underwater.” —Don Winslow * “Electrifying.” —Los Angeles Times * “A stunningly vivid tour de force! Gripping. Shocking.” —Brad Thor

A “masterful” (Patricia Cornwell) adrenaline-fueled thriller about a commercial jetliner that crashes into the ocean and sinks to the bottom with passengers trapped inside—and the extraordinary rescue operation to save them.

Six minutes after takeoff, Flight 1421 crashes into the Pacific Ocean. During the evacuation, an engine explodes and the plane is flooded. Those still alive are forced to close the doors—but it’s too late. The plane sinks to the bottom with twelve passengers trapped inside.

More than two hundred feet below the surface, engineer Will Kent and his eleven-year-old daughter Shannon are waist-deep in water and fighting for their lives.

Their only chance at survival is an elite rescue team on the surface led by professional diver Chris Kent—Shannon’s mother and Will’s soon-to-be ex-wife—who must work together with Will to find a way to save their daughter and rescue the passengers from the sealed airplane, which is now teetering on the edge of an undersea cliff. There’s not much time. There’s even less air.

An unforgettable thriller about a family’s desperate fight to save themselves and the people trapped with them—against impossible odds—Drowning is “a thriller to the core, one that readers will want to finish in a single sitting” (The Washington Post).

Critic reviews

“I found this book, about a plane that crashes in the water, cinematically compelling. I will say that the audio version is greatly enhanced by the vocalizing of Laura Benanti, though most things are. Weber, who also narrated Falling, is totally riveting.” (Marshall Heyman)
Gripping Thriller • Suspenseful Plot • Excellent Narration • Emotional Depth • Unique Premise • Fast-paced Action

So, this book is what I love about thrillers (and thank you to Cindy Burnett, Thoughts From A Page Podcast, who is helping me find them again). Fast paced, believable 🫣😱 and in a different world than mine, absolutely escape. My only complaint is WHY did they publish just before we all hop on a vacation plane!! 😰

ALSO this book proves why MOMS are the actual saviors of the world. Seriously—I’ve experienced it: my child’s clothes caught on fire when she was little and I burned myself putting it out, and would have done ANYTHING to save her. So, this is real to me and I’m glad to read a book which address this real phenomenon. Dads get a starring role here, too, so how about that.

In DROWNING, we begin with a dad, Will, and his daughter, Shannon, on a plane, and immediately it crashes. So brace yourself! Then, we begin learning that there’s a lot of emotion in this story, and Will MUST save Shannon. He makes some super smart calls—and yet, low and behold, he’s just bought them time, and they are still in trouble. But SAVIOR MOM, Chris, has some deep skills and is in the right place to form a plan that is about 90%sure to fail—if any blips happen.

Well, you just got to read it. Definitely on a day that you can go from page one to the end. Enjoy the rush!!

Here for the Savior Mom trope!! LOVED
