Major Narrator Problems

loved this book when I started reading it then I switched to audio and it ruined it. how did this GUY get the job of reading this book? Awful, screeching voices for the women and he made all of the men characters sound like they were 50 or 60 year old men....I had to go back to the Kindle version. This narrator is just so bad!

narrator a little off

After reading the Kingdom of Exiles, I decided I should give this book a chance. TKOE is still one of my favorite audio books I have had the chance of listening to. I felt like this book had a good story line, but I don't feel that the narrator was the best choice for this book. Given that the two main characters were female, he made them sound shreaky and whiny more than I would have imagined them to be. I wish the narrator that was used in TKOE was also used in this book. It would have made the story more pleasant to listen to. Overall I enjoyed the book, I just wish I had read the story instead of listening to it.

two things really messed up this book for me

1- although the narrator is a good narrator I don't know if he was appropriate for this book. he kind of sounded like the guy from lives of the Rich and famous which really did not make me think it was the inner monologue of a 19 year old girl... if it had been a girl I think I would have been in the book a little bit more.
2- the characters were okay... I didn't fall in love with any one of them even though I did like Heinrich a little bit. would really threw a wrench in this whole book was the character of Ruby. she almost made me give this book a one-star. for someone who is 20 year old and is supposed to be protecting a nineteen-year-old she is way too immature. She can't seem to wrap her head around ideas that not everything revolves around her for example she gets mad at a Lord who rules an entire kingdom because he couldn't take the time out of his busy schedule to talk to her... he is busy wait! even the main character tells her to come the heck down and instead of saying maybe I should think about how I act towards people and how I don't help situations when I act like a jerk she just goes he's a jerk to! I literally wanted to tell Ruby to shut up most of this book... She was okay at the end but still.
another thing which I won't take points off for but it just is kind of annoying is that I don't understand how the magic in this world works. In her other books she was very clear and how magic was done. that you were born with it and that only certain people possessed it. In this book I'm not so sure... at first I thought that basically if you were from one kingdom you would have a certain set of powers that you were born with and if you were from multiple kingdoms you would have a different set of powers. then halfway through the book it turns out that all people from one place can control an element? and that magic is also learned? extremely confusing...
not till I only read this book because SP Nova said that this book would be linked to her other series kingdom of exile... I literally was just waiting for this book to end... I will at least try the next book. hopefully there is more character development and thanks makes sense
