Publisher's Summary

Join the adventure in this well-loved series. The boxed set includes all five books - the complete set!

Ancient Magic

Cass Clereaux is good at two things: finding treasure and killing demons. Lying low is a close third - but not because she wants to be good at hiding. Cass is a FireSoul, one of the unlucky few to inherit a piece of the dragon's soul. On the surface, the perks are sweet - she has the power to find and steal any type of magical treasure, including the powers of other supernaturals.

But it doesn't come without a price - stealing powers requires that she kill, and others would destroy her if they discover what she is. In a world full of magic, hiding her powers is the only way to survive. Finding magical artifacts is the only way to pay the bills. But it's a dangerous job when you can't use your magic.

When Aidan Merrick, the most powerful shifter in the city, hires her to find an ancient scroll, she doesn't want to take the job. His immense amount of power reminds her of too much of murky memories from a past she can't remember. But she has no choice. The scroll will reveal what she is. And if anyone finds out, she's dead.

The boxed set includes four more books - Mirror Mage, Stolen Magic, Eternal Magic, & Infinite Magic - that follow Cass as she battles demons from her past and tries to keep the world from going down the toilet.

Ancient Magic features kick butt heroines, a hot hero, and otherworldly adventure.

Boxed Set

Five audio books for one credit, what's not to like. It is a well written story that keeps you invested from beginning to end. I love these characters and how they all fit together so well

Don't miss out due to the narration!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Every time I listen to an audible book, I have to force myself to get used to a new narrator. Laurel Schroeder's narration of this series consists of a dry, sharp narration. It's hard to describe but I promise if you stick with it, you will begin to appreciate her style.
The story has some great elements of science fiction, action, quirky humor, friendship, and romance. It can get a tad predictable in parts but still enjoyable. I am currently on book 11! I chose the series because it has a lot of books in the series that are already on audible. No waiting for the next to come out. I love stories with strong women characters.

What did you like best about this story?

This particular story (the box set) focuses on the mysterious past of the three main characters with one of them in the forefront. Through Cass' eyes, we get a feel for the relationship that she has with her chosen sisters and the inner strength that these three display in the face of adversity.

What does Laurel Schroeder bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Through all of the books, she is consistent in her presentation of the characters-voices, accents, and inflection. She reads pretty dry but places emotion where it fits best. I think, in a lot of ways, her style allows for the listener to create their own version of these characters much like we would if we were to read the story ourselves.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Love this series!

I actually discovered this series because I received a review copy of Dragons Gift: The Valkyrie Book 1, which is book 15 or 16 of the Dragons Gift series. They are all written as stand alones but I absolutely loved the Valkyrie book 1 so I decided to come back and start at the beginning. I was not disappointed! The first books in the series are just as awesome as the newer books. Hall has created an amazing world full of magic, adventure and interesting and endearing characters. Laurel Schroeder, one of my favorite narrators, has done an outstanding job bringing those characters to life and giving each a unique voice. I can't wait to listen to the next set of books in the series!!!

Wow

Linsey truly did an amazing job with this series. I fell in love with Cass and The others. I’m so excited to dive into the other books following Cass’s books. Linsey did Cass justice and I am sure she will do amazingly with the other girls. I wasn’t sure if I was ready to read this series at first but I am so glad I did. This is definitely a much read if you love adventure and magic with plenty of climax’s built in.

Terrible Narration

I really can't comment on the the storyline as I was unable to get 1/4 of the way into the book. The narration is very blocky, stilted with overly dramatic pauses that are totally unnecessary. I just couldn't listen anymore. I might give the physical books a try instead.

Persist through the first book

The story and narration really didn’t click with me in the first book. However, because I was in a drought of my favorite audiobook series, I continued on. I’m glad I did. The story got better and I became more invested in the characters.

I feel that the narrator maintains the same tone and inflection regardless of context. Asking for a beer? Shouting out as your loved one is about to perish? Whispering to conceal movements? Same volume, same tone, same inflection. Definitely some improvement to be made there.

The voices are OK but inconsistent. “Del” and “Cas” often have the same voice. Sometimes Del’s voice is deeper, but not always.

Either way, I think this boxed set is worth your time and money.

Nice attempt at accent but....

I love the story so far. Being a UK native the setting based mainly in Ireland and Scotland the attempt at an accent is great but not accurate. I would expect a Devonian "connor and claire" to have a westcountry accent not a posh one. We can tell the difference. Overall loving the tale though.

Not Convincing

Full of cheesy phrases, quite shallow and definitely only for the very young sci-fi audience. Often found the story dragging and the main character irritating at times.

Decent story until I got a bit bored

Stories were okay. I'm not entirely sure why but I got bored midway through book three. The rest of the books became back ground noise while I was doing other things. Others may enjoy them more.
