great first book in a hopefully amazing sires!

Omg this a great book! its chalked full of magic, supernatural and great friendship, and maybe new love.
The story starts when 3 girls wake up i and have memory of their past, or even their names.
Cass is the main character and the story is pretty much told by her. She has found out that she is a Fire soul. You find out that they are not very likable, and if they are caught, she will be thrown in jail for being one. Fire souls Kill other supernaturals for their powers and are very dangerous.
But Cass is not like that, and she tires to keep her self hidden as she and her 2 “sisters” go though life hidden and using other types of magic so others do not catch on.
She is a treasure hunter, and very good at it. This is how she makes her money. There are not many items she can not find for her clients. She also runs a little magic shop with her sisters that pass the time when she is not hunting things down for he clients.
Then she meets Aiden. she totally has the hots for him, and feels amazing when he is around her. he’s very powerful and she can feel that when he is around her. Aiden hires Cass to help him find a treasure that he has been looking for. its a very powerful list of people and their magic skills. She takes the job but has to make sure she doesn’t let her crush for him get in the way of doing her job, and making sure her name, and her sisters is not on that list!.

the narrator did an excellent job bringing this story to life! she actually fit case for well!
am looking forward to getting book 2 of this sores. I can’t wait to see what happens.

Excellent Series Start

This was an excellent start to a series. It was Lara Croft with magic. The action is constant and the narration was perfect.

Easy listen

I love this book so much I’ve listened to it maybe more than ten times. The performance is amazing, then that makes the story all that easier for me to listen to :)

Good magical journey

This is a great escape into a magical journey with paranormal undertones. I really enjoyed this book. I cannot wait for more to come. The narrator did a good job, no real complaints. It's kinda out of my genre but I still enjoyed it. Thank you for letting me review this book

I received this audiobook from Audiobook Boom in exchange for my honest review.

I'm excited to have gotten a chance to read Ancient Magic because it was just what I needed. A fast-paced, exciting magical romp with kick-ass female characters, and a hot Scot to boot!

Cassie and her friends don't have memories of their youth but know that someone is out for them and that they are a forbidden entity. Oops. But they're not horrible people, really! So they're in hiding, hiding their true nature, just trying to get by without drawing attention their magical abilities too much. Cassie can't use her powers at all because she is too powerful and things just blow up. But she's also a super talented seeker of treasures and procures goods for sale in their magical shop. I do love a good magical shop and a fun tomb raiding. And yes, there were plenty of references to Lara Croft in this book.

Then sexy Aidan comes along. I mean, a powerful shifter and a Scottish accent? Sign me up! He hires Cassie to find a scroll, and as it turns out this scroll will out Cassie and her friends for what they are. Uh-oh. So now it's personal, and she's out to find it at all costs. But someone else is stealing magical artifacts too, and at every turn, more kicking butt happens and battles ensue. No worries, though, our shifter friend can heal people! Can he get even hotter?

Eventually, Cassie has to start using her magic to save herself or her friends, and we get to see her vulnerable side. The final battle with the lanky of the Monster who seeks them is quite epic and got me curious to see what happens next. Is Cassie going to work on her skills and go after the Monster herself one day? Are they going to keep being in hiding? Only future books will tell.

I'm also very curious to see the relationship develop between Cassie and Aidan. They would be awesome together, and there's enough tension there to start a fire any day now. Cassie just needs to trust more, which is hard to do when you've been running and hiding your entire life.

I also enjoyed the audio of this book. The narration was fun to listen to, and the narrator had a good voice, especially with Aidan's accent ;)

The first four books of the series are already out, though I don't know how many are planned. They are pretty short so are a fun taste of paranormal goodness without dragging on. Which, as I said, was exactly what I needed right now.

Ancient Magic

Would you consider the audio edition of Ancient Magic to be better than the print version?

Ancient Magic was fast paced from beginning to end.

Both the ebook and audio version are enjoyable.

When the story and writing are good, a good narration only adds to the story.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I love the story, the friendship between Cass, Del and Nix. Their strength and support of one another. I loved the fact they made a life for themselves despite losing their memories. The friendship between them is strong and there are no secrets between them.

The core of the story in this book is Cass. I enjoyed taking the ride with her.

Looking forward to the next book in the series, the further development of the characters, Cass relationship with Aidan who is a great male lead : always supportive never thinking Cass cant hold her own in a fight.


If you love well written books with strong female heroines, lots of action and drama, than you will love Ancient Magic.

What does Laurel Schroeder bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Laurel as always delivers a great performance.

She portrays the different faces of Cass beautifully: the fighter, the friend, the woman starting a new relationship, etc.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

All the scenes featuring Cass, Del and Nix.

I love the connection between them. I enjoyed their fight scenes, but the quite times when they are just hanging out were my favorites.

Nothing spectacular, but certainly not offensive. Writing is basic and direct, but lacks depth.
