Reuben Corbett
Dragon Riders versus Wyvern Riders
The Resistance struggles to find a way to defeat the Dragonia Empire. All hope seems lost against the dragonriders, until they discover an island full of wyverns.
Devarius has lost everything. His parents murdered, his sister kidnapped, and the new village he called home: destroyed.
The Dragonia Empire has gotten out of control, destroying anything and everything in their path searching for the Resistance. Devarius is left with little choice but to find the Resistance, join them, and hope he can help them defeat the Dragonia Empire once and for all to bring peace to the land of Kaeldroga.

Reuben Corbett is fantastic as the narrator, he finds the right balance between acting out the moment without being overly dramatic. His voices for the characters are distinct and he voices the women quite well.
Overall I really liked the pacing, we get to know the characters quite well but it never felt bogged down. And I appreciated that not all the action is cast in a glamours and exciting light. The characters feel, and regret, any loss of life making me feel that they did take combat and battles seriously.
The author chose to walk that fine line between a character being sexist and the book being sexist and manages to pull it off successfully. The women in the book are great characters and I was often frustrated with the lead for not being able to see that. I am somewhat unforgiving of a book being sexist so I was nervous when the lead pretty clearly shows that he is, but it's just him and not the whole book so all was well.
The relationship with the dragons and the wyverns was fun, and it felt very natural to learn about them through Devarius and the others as they learned. Once the magic starts to really happen in book 2 I was definitely hooked. It's a great magic system and I definitely have more questions about it's mechanics but enjoyed what I got to see of it.
All in all if you want a great adventure story with wyverns and dragons and a (mostly) likable cast that is also performed well, this is definitely the book for you.
A fun adventure
