A plague from the past threatens dragons, and their riders…

A mysterious sickness ravages the land, causing dragons and their riders to fall into a never-ending sleep. Cora and her dragon steed Alaric are determined to find a cure… Especially as the sickness begins to claim the lives of their fellow dragon riders.

But Cora and Alaric are not immune to this unholy illness. Risking their lives, they join a team of dragon riders on a perilous journey to the Heart of Tenegard, where a mysterious healer believes they may find a cure. Tensions run high, as the group begins to suspect that a traitor lurks in their midst, manipulating dark magic and endangering them all.

The sickness threatens those closest to Cora, and the dragon school itself is in danger. If she cannot stop this malady from spreading, there may be no dragon riders left to defend Tenegard.

But time is running out. Can she find the cure for this ancient sickness, before it’s too late?

Another Great Addition to the Series

This was another great addition to the series. Ava Richardson has worked her magic creating entertaining characters along with an engaging story line to keep you coming back for more. Amy Hall has done a fantastic job breathing life into this story and made it as fun to listen to as it was to read.

What is Killing Dragons and Their Riders?

I absolutely adored the first books in this series, and I’m happy to say this book was just the same. I liked how the book pivoted from fighting what felt like an external “big bad” villain in the prior book to something that existed within the dragon rider community and their land’s council. Yes, of course, onyx was a part of that government, but he felt like a separate, bigger villain. This book focused on the new dragon riders, their dragons, and the council. Parts of it were about politics. I certainly felt sorry for the diplomatic liaison, the former princess and potential heir of the villain of the previous book. Few took her seriously for a long time—too long—and I so disliked seeing her belittled when she only spoke the truth as she knew it and only wanted to help the afflicted. She had no agenda, like others on the council. The plague that hit the dragon riders and their dragons was harsh, shocking, and a true, menacing medical mystery that needed solving—and fast! What it actually turned out to be was incredibly fascinating and complex but made contextual sense. Relationships are developing in this book, too, with the necessary bumps along the road. This more personal aspect in no way detracted from the action but only added to its poignancy. While the author gives a good explanation (without info dumping, thank you!) about what happened in prior books, you will certainly enjoy this best if you have read or listened to the other books of the series. The only part of the book I was wild about were some of the narrator's pronunciations, like "trebuchet" with a hard T and "hearth" like HERth. This author knows how to write good fantasy fiction, and I have enjoyed every book of hers that I've read or listened to. Highly recommended.

Battling a Mysterious Plague . . .

New challenges are facing Cora, Alaric, and the dragon riders. They have established the school for dragon riders and have so far been successful. But then something goes wrong as dragon riders and their dragons begin to get sick from a type of plague, falling asleep and not waking. No one can determine what is causing this.

Journeying to the Heart of Tenegard, they find another healer who thinks there is a possible solution. But even if it works, will the plague be eliminated before it is too late to save everyone? Will they discover who released this plague and what they are up to? Will they figure out who they can trust as it starts to look like dark magic is at work closer than they realized? The narrator for the audiobook version, Amy Hall, brings the “reading” experience alive for the listener. She does a good job with the voices to personalize the story and make it easy for the listener to get an accurate impression of what each character is like. It helps to set the mood, familiarize the reader with the characters, and offers a pleasant way to “read” and enjoy the book.

Nail biter

Just when you think the war is over, something else strikes. There is a mysterious plague striking the dragons and riders. If Cora and Friends can’t find the cure, could this be the end of the new dragon school before it begins. It’s a race against time as more dragons and riders succumb to the mysterious plague. A must listen.

The intriguing story line .

The story kept me guessing what was going to happen next well done mystery.
I personally think that there were parts drawn out a little bit to long.
