Publisher's Summary
A Sunday Times best seller.
The 10th action-packed thriller in the classic Dirk Pitt series, where the adventurer must foil the deadly conspiracy of a group of Japanese nationalist fanatics.
Buried in the depths of the Pacific Ocean, off the coast of Japan, lies one of the greatest drowned secrets of World War Two - a crashed B-29 bomber that was carrying a third atomic bomb to Japan in 1945.
Its deadly cargo, lost in the sea for nearly 50 years, is at the heart of this classic Dirk Pitt thriller, in which a small group of Japanese nationalist fanatics, dreaming of a new Nipponese Empire, set out to neutralise and blackmail the USA - with nuclear weapons planted strategically in the country's major cities....

Like reading a teenage boy's daydream
I was done when I heard: "Stacy Fox wiggled her way back ..."; "Wasn't what you'd call disturbingly attractive..."; "Her long straight blonde hair fell around her face and she often tossed it back with a brief shake of her head"; "She was slim and her shoulders were broad for a woman..."; and the very last straw was: "The crew could only speculate about her breasts. None had ever seen them, and she always wore a loose-fitting sweater, but occasionally when she yawned and stretched, her chest gave an indication of her firm substance..."
How does this further the story? The author didn't mention the size of any man's 'package' or described the men in any way other than he was buff, strong, sturdy, etc. The entire concept of reducing women to their looks and the size of their breasts is not only demeaning and disturbing, but it sends the wrong message to teenage girls and young women that their minds don't matter, nor their abilities. Geeze, men like Cussler clearly don't get why women are frustrated and exhausted by this type of treatment.

Send, "The Delta Forces!"
The Delta Forces? Delta Force? or just “Delta?” Maybe?
Robot dogs? And consecrated robots? What? Consecrated?
The plot in this story is ridiculous. The science is not even believable science fiction. The writing is mediocre. Tons of exposition is given as dialog, like Clive was writing this to be a script.
Gems:
“A new robodog is currently being reprogrammed.” :/
“Sorry I’m late, but I had to take a dog to obedience school.”
This was a truly tiresome experience.

My Thoughts.
I use to read the Dirt Pitt books with great relish back in the day when the year began with a 19 in front of it. Over time I lost interest in them, but I noticed them here in Audible and thought I should reacquaint myself. Never noticed that the books had a writing style reminiscent of the old dime store novels with the hero being a steely-eyed macho man. Oh, well. The major thing that bothered me is the incessant Japanese bashing going on in the book. That seriously turned me off. Changing times, I guess.

Been worth the very long wait
This book has been worthy the very long wait , after finishing the Dirk Pitt series a while back I’ve been waiting on several of the books to become available, this one, 11 & 12 in September, and no sign of books 15 & 16 which is a complete shame as I would love the complete set. Same goes with the Numa Files I would love the missing books from that series as well, it bugging missing out on stories especially when they get referred to in other books.
This book however was one of my favourite Dirk Pitt adventures. It was full of everything that has made this series great. Clive Cussler is one of my all time favourite authors, and I have had many hours of enjoyment listening to his epic adventures.
