Publisher's summary

From the bestselling author of Hello Love comes a spellbinding new novel of enduring love, family secrets, and mysterious death.

Joe Arneson's ordinary life is upended by troubling dreams of himself as a different man in another place and time. It isn't until he visits his estranged grandmother, Pearl, in her Wisconsin hometown that a startling connection emerges.

Drawn into his family's past, Joe discovers secrets weighing on the old woman's soul: the tragic death of her sister Alice a half century ago and its ripple effect on all who loved her. Digging into the events of that summer in 1916, Joe is convinced that his recurrent visions relate to Alice's untimely passing and to the beloved man she meant to marry. With the help of Kathleen, a local woman Joe's fallen for, the puzzles of the past start falling into place.

As uncovered truths bring Joe and Kathleen closer together, they also reveal a new danger. For Joe's dreams may be a warning—from one star-crossed couple to another.

Dovetail

My mom had heard wonderful things about this book, so a purchased a copy for her, and I ordered the audiobook for myself. I was immediately drawn into the story. I really loved Pearl's two worlds uniting through her grandson.

Dovetail review

The presentation was excellent 😊. Story was too long and predictable. I like more twists in the plot.

Intertwined stories make for a suspenseful read

What is crazy? I like how this story was revealed. The idea that the main elderly character wasn’t particularly upstanding was a new vantage.

Dragged on too long

I came close to giving up because the last 1/2 should have been much shorter.

Glad I finished it

I didn’t like the female narrator in this book. The male narrator was ok. I did find if I sped the audio up to 1.4, the female narrator was more tolerable. I didn’t like the voice she used for Alice and she sounded robotic when she played a male. That aside, the story held my interest and I finished the book.

the tale of two love stories decades apart

two stories in one
this is a love story that involves two time periods while maintaining the same characters. I found it very interesting and there is also a mystery surrounding the death of a young woman who is in love with a .an whose background holds secerts. I couldn't put it down

Not the best!

The story line became quite predictable. The narrators did not have distinct diction for each character. The voices of females sounded whiny or as a very young toddler would speak. It kind of grated on me. But, I preserved and finished.
