Story
Long ago, men harnessed the Channels of Power, creating tevisrals: devices capable of manifesting magic. But men weren't the only ones to accomplish such feats. Dragons crafted the most sophisticated tevisrals. These shaped the world, defining civilization of man and elf alike. Over the centuries, the people of Kalda have fallen into a dark age, where elves are estranged from men and dragons have retreated into legend.

The ancient magic of wizards was anything but dark. It was the enlightenment that lifted humanity from the squalor of superstition, and the worship of fell spirits and capricious gods, but those days are gone. The shining glory of the sorcerers burned away the subtlety of wisdom, replacing it with easy power, held only in the hands of the elite - a new age built upon the elemental supremacy of aristocrats and the ignorance of the masses.

It has been 20 years since the end of the war. The dictatorial Augurs, once thought of almost as gods, were overthrown and wiped out during the conflict, their much-feared powers mysteriously failing them. Those who had ruled under them, men and women with a lesser ability known as the Gift, avoided the Augurs' fate only by submitting themselves to the rebellion's Four Tenets.

One of the best books I've listened to
- By Joel on 01-06-20
Publisher's Summary
The Battle of Forest Hill is over. The war for Tarsynium has only just begun.
The demons have been defeated in the Emberwood, and Owyn and Zara must travel to the capital city of Tarsys to bring word to the Conclave. However, not everything is as it seems in the city of mages.
Assassins lurk in the shadows and whispers of demon plots follow a mysterious - and deadly - cult. The Arc of Radiance is failing, and if the heroes of Forest Hill aren't careful, they may help hasten its demise.
The epic adventure continues in Book 2 of the Fall of Radiance series. Perfect for fans of Sabaa Tahir, Sarah J. Maas, and Brandon Sanderson.

Great follow on to book 1
Easily become a fantasy fan with books like this. I love the narration team, easily my favorite team. A story just plays better with a male / female team.
May sound funny with death and demons, but I like that these books are clean compared to some others out there. No unnecessary cursing, darkness, and rape and pillaging.
So far both books have kept my interest. I like following the main characters and can not wait to see how they grow in future books.
The storyline is interesting with a nice blend of familiarity with most fantasy books, but still enough new imagination to keep you involved.
I would recommend both book 1 and book 2 while looking forward to book 3.

Sequel was just as good as Original if not Better!
Part 2 of this series picks up not long after the end of book 1, and finds our heroes cleaning up the mess left by the demon infestation. Owyn has been trusted with leading a band to take down a Gorgon, and Zara is dealing with the Mages, all of whom are quite proud of her efforts.
It is fascinating to see the comparison between Owyn and Zara from the start of Ranger’s Oath to Doom Bringers, how they have grown as Characters, and that shows a lot in the Authors ability as a Character writer, to allow us to take the trainees of the series, the Ranger in training and the Mage trying to pass her Magi test, and show the distinct difference, they have not just added experience in their skill sets, they have grown as actual people as well. Zara is no longer quite so shy (even though she was very courageous and bold), she is willing to take command now.
Owyn has come into his own, a true Ranger, even though he has not yet reached the rank, he is capable of leading strike forces to hunt down Demons, things that no one has heard of, let alone fought in a Millennia.
When it comes time to return to the Capital City of Tarsys and report what has happened, Elias decides that Owyn can go on without him, as he has an important deed that must be dealt with. This is very unusual, as an Apprentice Ranger is not meant to be separated from his Master under any circumstances as per the Ranger’s Oath.
And so Owyn and Zara head to Tarsys to make their report with the other Mages.
I don’t want to go into a huge amount of detail as it will give too much away.
This is a great second story though, as Owyn and Zara are separated from their Masters, and they have to fend for themselves to a large extent, and it is great to see (as I said before), how the characters have grown, and to see their Characters come into their own light, rather than under the shadow of others all the time.
There are a multitude of plots in this books that see it thrumming along at a furious pace.
Both Main Characters (as well as a lot of the secondary characters) are under threat from a group of assassins, trying to silence everyone from what they have seen in the first story.
Owyn, on reaching the city, is in stunned awe, never having seen anything like what he sees. However, he is quickly snatched up by a Senior Ranger, who has serious questions for him, not just about the incident, but about his loyalties as well. Suddenly Owyn finds that he has to defend himself as he doesn’t have Elias to speak for him, and he is not in his safe environment.
Without giving anything away, Owyn’s part in this story is utterly intriguing, and some of the best writing in the series so far. The Character work, dialogue, and interactions between Owyn and the other Characters is compelling, and leaves you wanting to skip chapters to find out what has happened. (the book alternates between Owyn and Zara, and you know you are reading a good book, when you just want to skip entire sections of a book to follow one characters story arc, but at the same time, you don’t want to miss out on the other main character as well. The Character writing is Inspired in this book)
Zara, having returned to the Mages, and having killed their High Mage, uncovering some other plots along the way, continues to investigate the Conclave. This allows us to learn a lot about the Conclave, and also allows the Author to really give some attention to the world building, not just for the Conclave, but for the city of Tarsys, as well as Tarsynium and Forest Hill as well.
The World Building has been one of the real highlights of this story, the Author has put a lot of effort into creating and developing this beautiful and enthralling set of locations, from deep forests, to sprawling cityscapes, to the terrifying decaying land that lays beyond the safety of “The Arc of Radiance”, where the Demons, and other things live, and if the barrier falls, it will be the end of them all. Peel’s descriptive work is both breathtaking, and at times, horrifying, it is masterfully done, in that it whilst it does make you feel unsettled, he doesn’t take it too far.
This is just an exceptionally well written book, and I am really excited to read the third part in the series and find out what happens. This is also one of those series that I will happily listen to it again, (I have the Audio and e-books), as it was just so good.
If you are a lover of Fantasy, or just like a good Character Driven Story (because I have to admit, I am more Sci-Fi than Fantasy, but when it is this good, I just love to dive into a good Fantasy read), you will not want to miss this.
I did get an ARC of the e-book, but I have since bought the Audiobook, and I have also bought the e-book so I had a full copy as I loved it so much.
Kate Reading and Michael Kramer return to do the Narration in the second part of this series, and again, did a wonderful job of Narrating their respective Main Characters Zara and Owyn, but all of the secondary characters as well.
Kramer has just the perfect voice for the stoic young Ranger, not just ‘bringing’ him to life, but ‘breathing’ life into him, creating this bold and fearless young man, who at the same time, is still quite youthful and naïve in many ways, his Narration is very clever in the emotion he gives his Character.
Kate Reading has long been a favourite of mine from her work in other series, and she brings that amazing quality to anything she Narrates. She has so much passion, she is so full of energy, her characters are so alive, and she tells the story so well.
Both Reading and Kramer do wonderful voices, clear, concise, easy to understand, both with clear distinctions between male and female characters.
This is easily one of those books (and series), that you have to listen to rather than read, it is just so much better.

Found situations very similar between main characters and reactions, thoughts repeated time and time again. Heroine has real logic problems on why she "must" handle situations by herself (especially in the city).

We are the Watchers in the Woods
The first battle with the demons has been won, but at a high cost. However, demons are not the only ones who wish to destroy this world.
Owyn and Zara return to Tarsys to give evidence to the Circle, after which Owyn is taken to Ashwood Forest by the Warden Tamara. Zara, meanwhile, remains in the Conclave, where she has been elevated to Magus and where keeping out of trouble is not an option.
This is good, solid fantasy.

Much like the first book it continues to follow Zara and Owyn, the story includes a lot of action and paces itself very well. I would have to say I enjoyed this more than the first book. I highly recommend it for those who liked the first, just like the first the narrators bring the story to life.

An excellent continuation
I recieved a review copy of this book. The story is solid, and the narration is excellent. It continues to build the world, as more is revealed and the plot to bring down the barrier is unveiled.
