Author only reads preface. Other guy reads the rest. Beware. It’s good. You just won’t get that sweet accent for twenty-two hours!

If only the author had read it himself

The experience of listening to the audible version of this excellent work is severely diminished by the author not choosing to read it himself. Fans of Tom Holland from his podcasting will be disappointed to find that the chosen reader for all but the introduction of this book is someone who, while competent, consistently fails to capture the inimitable tone, tempo and timbre of the author, to the marked detriment of the prose and content. Sadly, a wasted opportunity. Let’s hope Tom Holland doesn’t make the same mistake with future works, of which hopefully there will be many.

Loved it

A great Objective look at Christian influence on the world. The story feels real and personal but also backed up by the facts. Loved it.

Captivating

Amazing pattern. It is as if we still fight today for the save thing the church fought thousands years ago. The only twist is that today we try to do it without the church, in fact many might see the church as a problem. Not realizing how incredibly Christian are their ideas.

I thought this was going to be something different, but I enjoyed it very much. A very interesting way of telling how Christianity has effected the world.

The historical insight of how Christian values continue to influence the world today and the recurring ideology of reform and redistribute will result in Utopia confirm that there is nothing new under the sun

Athens and Jerusalem

The way that the way the coming together of Hebrew and Greek culture was described. I learned a lot about how that actually happened.

The ease at which TH connected such vast time periods into a clear, entertaining and convincing historical narrative was hardcore Holland and him at his absolute best. I loved it, every moment was filled with relevant information that had me never wanting it to end. This review is “my truth,” take it or leave it.

The final pages left me overwhelmed with emotion; gratitude for what I’ve inherited, grief for what’s been lost, and a profound sense of awe at the enduring power of the Christian myth, of which we are all a part.
