Publisher's Summary

Rookie Cop Dave Stewart knew that William Bailey was guilty of murder. All he had to do to convict him was change one line in his statement.

Detective Chief Superintendent John McCauley loves dirt. He collects it in secret files to use against his enemies, and since Stewart slept with the beautiful Detective Sergeant Anne Wallace, he is the enemy. Stewart hatches a plan to destroy the evidence against him, but inside McCauley's files is evidence of a vile paedophile ring operating under the Chief's nose. Now three people are dead, and Dave Stewart is the prime suspect.

Excellent! Highly recommend!

First of all, this narrator is fantastic! The story is spellbinding, like a large, tightly woven, spider web that slowly unravels. I'm a serious thriller/mystery fan, and this book was a very pleasant surprise. I couldn't stop listening and sadly just finished it at 3am.

BRILLIANT

I could not put this book down. When the phone rang I ignored it. Jonathan Keeble is a genius when it comes to narration and accents. Can't wait for the next one.

Fantastic

There are few books that I can get into quickly, that keep me hooked from start to end and that I find myself making every free moment possible to listen and then feel sad when it ends. So when I find one, I am totally delighted and this is one of them. To add, this is also a new author for me, so am now looking forward to going through his back catalog!

The story is believable but does cover a difficult subject and not for the faint hearted.

The story is set in areas and a time that I am personally familiar with and that is a novel experience for me! and I think helped and made the story feel more personal.

Only negative, from the story, is that I felt it ended too abruptly. I think an epilogue would have tied the book up very neatly, as I still have some questions. But it will be no hardship to listen again and see if I missed anything.

Finally, I generally enjoyed the narrators performance. Only criticism was that some of the accents were not always consistent and his accent of the prisoner from Manchester sounded a lot more Scouse than Manc. Also some of his pronouncements of local place names was not correct, but that’s a small detail and didn’t spoil my enjoyment.

Highly recommended.

good easy listen

didn't know what to expect with this as I've never read anything by Robert White. I've previously enjoyed performances by Jonathan Keeble so thought I'd give it a go.
I enjoyed the story, set in the 80's I think and would recommend it as an easy to listen to, well performed book.

Excellent so many twist & turns...

Enthralling book with pretty much some kind of emotion, from start to finish. It was brilliantly narrated, as ever, by Johnathan Keeble; he helped ignite the story. I throughly enjoyed it, thank you Mr White.

Outstanding entertainment

Action and surprise right from the start. Fast pace with solid characters including some real gritty types. One of the raciest crime thrillers around. Great read!

Narration suits the story line

Jonathan Keeble really brings this audio version to life. The voices jumped out of this story and made the characters real.
The story skips along with well rounded details and some interesting twists.

fantastic!

I've listened to so many audio book over the recent years, but I have to note that this book has to be one of the best.
Jonathan Keeble is an amazing narrator and his words immerse you into the story. If I could of given this book 6 stars, I would of done.
