Publisher's summary

Addiction is one of the most prevalent forms of disease in the current generation. It is a persistent kind of disease shown by wanting to use drugs; it is difficult to manage and control even though it has adverse and harmful results. Most people use drugs voluntary for healing purposes but consistent substance use leads to brain damage or a change in the proper functionality of the brain. This is due to the fact that the person has no self- control to the drug and is also unable to resist the drug. We have various forms of addiction today such as:

  • Addiction to porn
  • Addiction to drugs and alcohol
  • Addiction to online gambling
  • Addiction to food

This audiobook discusses the different forms of addiction and their symptoms, and factors that lead to addiction. Most of addicts try alternate ways to stop this adverse behavior but find it difficult stopping long-term. The book discusses how addicts of various types can be assisted through dialectical behavior therapy. This is a kind of treatment that the addict undergoes to help them manage impulsive feelings and learn to accommodate stress and develop desired interpersonal skills. Dialectical behavior therapy uses modules in overcoming various addictions and it can be implemented to address substance abuse.

Not DBT

Expectation was that specific DBT modules and skills would be addressed. They were NOT. Just a brief definition of each type of substance abuse. Nothing uniquely DBT is discussed. Does not talk about anything uniquely DBT. Total waste of an Audible credit.

Difficult to focus..

The material of this book is great, but my review is in response to the interesting narration of the material. The narrator would struggle pronouncing words, trip over his words, pause to hear the correct pronunciation, and you could hear him scratching his face. So, this audio version was nothing but a distraction.

Helpful for therapists, but not a self-help book

In no way is this a self-help. However it is a very helpful look at how DBT can be applied to treating various addiction disorders.

I really like the format.

I really like the format. It is a quick reference guide. If you are a DBT therapist you still need the original red hardback. It has valuable information that this book doesn't. This manual has some great teaching ideas for the didactic part of DBT skills groups.

Perfect for Beginners

The different plans for variations on the therapy can be a bit much to keep up with but there is an application of DBT here for almost any need.

Great Information

An important contribution to mine, so much so that I decided to buy the Big Book for further intense study. I could not be more grateful for DBT.
