Publisher's summary

Damian Tate. One look into his sad green eyes and I was hooked. I wanted to be the one to make him laugh, to make him smile. I hadn't expected him to be the one to make me blush, to make me hot...to make me fall in love. He was my first kiss, my first love, my first everything. I wanted forever with him, but life got in the way.

He enlisted, I went to college, and for years we were never in the same place long enough to pick up where we left off.

Thirteen years after he left, tragedy brought him home. The stoic boy I fell in love with grew into a quiet, dangerous and wildly sexy man. He still tugs on all the right strings for me, but he seems determined to keep me at arm's length.

However, when trouble comes knocking at my door, he is the one to put himself between that trouble and me.

Spending time with him might drive me insane, or it might be our second chance at first love.

Due to strong language and sexual content, this book is not intended for listeners under the age of 18.

AN EPIC JOURNEY OF TRUE LOVE & SECOND CHANCES

A flawless love story that was masterfully written and skilfully narrated.. and the result was a captivating dual POV listen that I just didn't want to stop, a whodunnit listen that included drama, suspense and angst.. and a beautiful bitter-sweet listen that brought out so many emotions. It told the story of an unbreakable love between two teenagers who had to wait over a decade before they would finally get their heart's desire.. each other.

We first meet Damian at the sweet age of 5 and by the time he'd reached the age of 9 his Father had left.. ultimately abandoning him and leaving him in the mentally and emotionally abusive care of his Mother who spewed venomous toxic insults at him instead of loving words.. and it would shape the man he would become. However, his sanity and stability would come from a teenage friendship with his best friend Cam, his family who would teach him how a loving supportive family should be.. and Cam's twin sister Thea would teach him how to love, how to hope and how to dream. But their dreams would have to be put on hold for a while because Damian had a lot of pent up anger.. and the army would eventually hone that damaged young warrior into a highly dangerous, highly skilled and highly decorated Green Beret. And Damian would have to wait much longer than he ever planned before getting another chance with the woman who would always hold his heart.

Thea loved Damian right from the start, he was her first everything.. but at 18 she didn't think her first love would lead to her first heartbreak too. And, in the hopeless loveless years that followed their parting, Thea would never forget him, never stop loving him and never stop writing to him.. but she would eventually give up hope of ever getting a HEA with Damian. So Thea would grow to become a strong and successful Book Illustrator, a well loved supportive friend, a kind neighbor and a loving daughter to her widowed Mum. But Thea would have to wait until her life was in danger at 31 before she would finally be able to hold a very changed Damian again. She would have to wait for the capture of crooked cops and the discovery of just who the puppet-master was behind her Dad's murder. She would have to wait until after a twisted betrayal which would leave a loved one fighting for their life. Then, and only then, they would finally find peace and make those long ago dreams come true.

Worth a credit? YES definitely.. it was a well-paced journey which brought out so many emotions as I got to know Damian, Thea and the cast of secondary characters. I was captivated with the complexities Fate had them endure, I laughed as well as cried, I swooned at Damian's heartfelt tender sentiments and rejoiced with them when they finally got their HEA ending.

Really

If you had cut out about 10 unnecessary chapters in this book and the time line, it could have been much better.

Deep and Slow Burn

I loved the way this started. The back story with Thea and Damian was so believable and sincere. I would describe Thea a quirky and sincere while Damian is broody and quiet. Two teenaged lovers who want to chase their dreams and make a future together is such a universal tale. I loved the passion they had in the beginning of the story. But, somewhere along the line all the fire got lost in the suspense. I felt like this story dragged on after awhile and a lot of the spark sort of fizzled because they wasted so much time resisting their attraction. However, the danger factor was believable. I was not expecting it to end the way that it did. My only issue was that it was such a slow burn. Everything else was fine.

Tracy Marks was great as Thea but I wish their had been a male narrator for Damian. But overall, good performance

Dark, mystery and humor

I love when author's bring familial ties into books and that is what I loved the most about this story. Yes, it's a romance. But it's also the story of family and how far you will go to protect those you love.

I do feel the romance was dragged along way too far. I kinda felt like, if they get together great, if not... I don't care anymore, because it was such a slow burn. But that is literally my only beef. Everything else was great. The main female character was strong, hilarious and independent. The main male character was dark and broody and a whole lot alpha.

Great story.

Tracy Marks did was she does best. She is perfect with these crime/drama type books and I wouldn't change a thing about her performance other than it wasn't proofed very well as there were a couple of retakes that weren't edited out. That type of thing distracts you and pulls you from the story but it wouldn't stop me from listening to this one again.

lovely story

Tracy Marks is amazing and has become one of my automatic download. it worked to my benefit since I didn't know this author but I really enjoyed her story even though at times I found it frustrating because the two main characters could not find the right time to get together.there was love, humor, heartache and hot sex. In all great story, great narration so get it😘

INCREDIBLY AWESOME!

I LOVED this book! The story was original and kept me captivated from beginning to end. A GREAT LOVE STORY! Great characters! I don't think that I can get enough of Damian, total swoon worthy, and Thea! I have enjoyed all of the books I've listened to by L.A. Fiore but this has to be at the top of my list. BOOK 1 ..hopefully there is a BOOK 2..?? The narration was off the charts as Tracy Marks never disappoints! will definitely listen to this one again!

Frustrating

This book went on and on with nothing exciting happening until the end. Some of the story was actually boring. I liked many of the characters, but the story itself was too long, too slow. And the narrator was too breathy, with a cadence that I find annoying. I have enjoyed many L. A. Fiore books in the past, this is definitely my least favorite.

Just get together already

Started out great. Then fizzled and finished just ok. Plot had potential but didn't flow. Too much time went by between separation and getting back together.

Predictable and Cliched

I am making a mental note of this narrator's name so that I can avoid her forever! Her tone was so obnoxiously breathy and repetitive, I almost didn't make it through this story. The story itself wasn't terrible, but there was nothing remarkable about the plot or the characters, really.
