Publisher's Summary

In a world where supernaturals and humans are separated by walls, there is magic to be magicked and quests that still need questing. Yes, quest as a verb.

I, Zamira “Reckless” Wilson, thought I had done my part. With a little help from those I love, we stopped the bad guys from mucking up our side of the wall. We won the battle and were left standing on this side of the dirt.

Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

But a curse from long ago, cast to ensure everything in my life would eventually go wrong has now come full circle.

There is darkness in the east, and it flows toward the desert I’ve sworn to protect like a creeping floodwater you cannot see until it is upon you.

That power has stolen Maks's magic.

It has stolen Lila’s ability to shift.

And it has stolen my newfound strength.

We are back to square one, and we are about to face off against an unknown enemy. I have only one thing to say.

“Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more.”

Great addition to the series!

Zam, Maks, & Lila are back with a non-stop action story as they set out to fulfill the long time promise of finding the dragon eggs. Several new characters are introduced along the way that add to the storyline. The story ends in a hook (not cliffhanger) that promises for a great 8th book! Love this series! The narrator did a fantastic job with providing unique voices for each character and appropriate tone inflections for each scene.

All hell breaks loose!!

What a phenomenal listen!! The narrator does a amazing job portraying Zam and all of the other characters. The story is brought to life and it’s like you are beside Zam, Lila, and Maks on the hunt for the dragon eggs. The world building is great and I truly enjoyed this audiobook. I can’t wait for the next book. There will be a throw down for sure!!

Another great read!

I honestly did not want to like this book as much as I did. I felt like it was the same story running in different parts of the world, maybe it is, but there’s enough context to feel you in and make you fall in love all over again. You’ll cheer for the good guys and scream at the bad guys, or gals as the story may go. I LOVE thst Baldur finally gets a side story of his own! That alone would have earned 5 stars, but of course this story is that and so much more! Zam damn well better get her happily ever after with Maks, they deserve it. And I cannot wait to see who Lila ends up with as a mate.

Doesn’t even complete one story line

This book doesn’t even complete one story line. Leaves me with the impression that the author was late on her finish date and had to turn something in.

Writing Brilliance, Yet Not as Epic as Prev Books

After such an epic battle from the Emperor's Throne, it's hard to pick up the pieces and re-build the drama and suspense. Mayer brilliantly adds a twist to the characters reverting them back to their skills at the beginning of the series which is unique and fresh. It helps keep the main characters from becoming too much of unstoppable powerhouses. It gives more of a sense of danger and mortality which the book desperately needed in order to drive the reader on in the series. It's a bit frustrating as a reader to endure, but I can truly appreciate the brilliance for what it is. I'm honestly torn over this book for the first time in a while since reading Mayer's works. There was so much suspense, action, drama, the list goes on for the first 6 books in this series that after an epic battle like the last one, it's hard to continue the story when the main villain, and surprise secret villain, has been vanquished. This was Mayer's chance to introduce a whole new world outside of the wall. New characters, new villains, new challenges; yet this book is so much shorter than all of the previous ones. There is plenty of action and new crazy creatures for Zam, Lila, and Maks to battle, but there should have been soooo much more. I listened to the audiobook, and it was almost two hours shorter than all of the other books. And for the first time, there wasn't the same level of foreshadowing of a bigger badder villain for us to expect in the previous books to set the stage for the rest of the series yet to come. Don't get me wrong, she does set up this villain quite well in this book, but we had no obvious hint to them before now. I love this series (more than I EVER thought I would) but I wouldn't be disappointed if it wraps up in another few books so that Mayer can focus on some of her other amazing series'.

Zam does not disappoint!

Den of thieves is a continuation of the desert cursed series. Initially, it was a little slow to start but picked up quickly. By the end, I couldn’t put it down. The ending was a great cliffhanger, making me anxious for the next book in the series!

Another excellent adventure!

Zamira, Macs, and Lila are off to follow up on Zam's promise to the dragons, find the stolen Dragon eggs and young dragons and bring them home. New prophesies are involved leaving hints to Zam's ultimate destiny. Shannon Mayer is an exceptional story teller. Her characters are fun and engaging and continue to grow and develop as they are challenged in their adventures. It feels like coming home hanging out with Zam and family again. So looking forward to the next book in this series.

Gah

I love this series so much. Zam, Max and Lila are the best. So awesome to see where Balder came from and meet new characters in their epic adventure. The narrator was on point with all the different voices. So so good as usual can’t wait for more.

Shorter than the others, but catches you quick

Although it’s a couple-few hours shorter than the previous audio books of the series, it does catch your attention and curiosity very quickly. There were a couple moments in the first 2 hours that had me wondering why warning signs were being basically ignored, but things were cryptic too so, eh. About 2 hours left and there was one little slip up that I noticed… a colt mentioned one moment and then a little bit after that it’s called a filly. Only a slight annoyance though. Well, the end was full of questions and feels like it’s leading into another few books at the least. The story is overall well-written and again, the narrator does a decent job. I noticed a few times she used the wrong voice for a character here and there, but it wasn’t too bad and she’s fantastic at keeping you enveloped in the story.

Amazing

I loved this book! Everything about this book hit its mark. From the characters fighting their battles and growing to the ending. I love the interplay with the characters and the new ones they were introduced. There was so much excitement and character building. The only bad part is waiting for the next book!

A great continuation of a fantastic story

Here we are on book 7 of this fantastic series. I love listening to Lauren Fortgang reading/acting out Shannon Mayers books, they make a great team to produce a fantastic audio book, and oh my, what an ending to this book ....... I’m really looking forward to reading/listening to the next book in the series. Although I was offered a free copy of Den of Thieves for an honest review of the book, I would like to point out that I myself bought the audible books numbers 1 through to 6 of this series, I was just lucky enough to be offered a free copy of book 7 before I bought it.

Amazing

I received this book free for an honest review. Like many others I thought Emperor’s Throne was the final book so I was so happy when I heard we had more coming. This book finds Zam , Lila and Maks having won the battle finding themselves left with no magic and a curse from a long time ago hanging over them. Loved this book and Lauren’s narration is perfect and I am looking forward to the next book.
