Publisher's summary

Every so often, a demon decides to change the world. This time, the stakes are much higher; there’s a Greed demon just steps away from the White House. Beelzebub, one of the lords of Hell, knows about an artifact that only the President of the United States has access to. If he gets it, Hell will return to Earth with a vengeance.

With nowhere else to turn, the horseman Death has been called in to remedy the situation. With his faithful sidekick and steed, Khloros, he’s going to face adversity from foes in which he was never prepared. Can the Pale Rider find his inner strength? Or will it take a Lust demon named Roxanne to unlock what he once had?

Chronicles of Death series:

  • Book one: Demons in D.C.
  • Book two: In the Nyx of Time

Publisher’s note: This title contains violence, terrible puns, demonic politicians, and a whole lot of "action". Listener discretion is advised.

The equivalent of a B movie

I went into this book not really knowing what to expect, and with that mindset the book was mindless, popcorn fun. It's not A Tale of Two Cities, but if you can get past the somewhat immature thinking of a character that is as old as humanity, then you could find some enjoyment in it. Without giving too much away, it is about Death, one of the Four Horseman who apparently has taken a sabbatical from his duties to enjoy the fruits of the Earth, but ends up being the errand boy of a higher power. The action was decent, with an appropriate amount of descriptive gore, and there is sex involved. While not on par with some of the very descriptive action of a Harem-type book, its enough that I think it would only be appropriate for mature audiences.

One of the things that bothered me about the MC was the fact that he's an immortal being, but seems to have the mindset of a horny teenager. I get that there is a biblical precedent for this in regards to the Nephilim, but I highly doubt their inner monologue was as juvenile as the MC, or become as easily distracted by a set of breasts or tight jeans.

Other than that, it really was the equivalent of a B movie. If you go in with that mindset, you might find it enjoyable.

Good book

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

So I wasn't sure what to expect going into this but I love most stories involving the Four Horsemen. I have read probably about a dozen of them so far and I always jump on the chance to read more.

This book was good but not extremely mind-blowing. I did like it overall but I think I would have preferred it just as an ebook and not as an audiobook. I don't seem to like women moaning in my ear. There was a lot of sex scenes in it - as to be expected when one of the main characters was a lust demon. I found it interesting that it was narrated by a woman rather than a man since Death is the main character, not Roxanne.

The pacing of the book was good for the most part. I love the fact that the horse is now a car. Very modern!

Overall, like I said, it was a good book and a great take on the horseman Death
