Publisher's Summary

Hopefully you’ve read/listened to Starship Sakira, but you can start Delphi City, the second book in the exciting new adventure series Delphi in Space.

The McCormacks have a starship, and now, they need a safe place to start harvesting the technology. They’re starting with a place in the Cook Islands, but to succeed, they have to avoid spies, figure out how to manufacture the new technology using Earth-based tools, and then introduce it without getting into too much trouble with the governments and big corporations of Earth.

Come listen along as they build their team from the initial five to enough to run and protect a city. They’re preparing to take the human race into space, but will they succeed before someone manages to take over their spaceship and technology? And can they finish before the Paraxeans come looking for their spaceship?

Needs a livelier performance!

Jessica Gurd has a delightful trace of an accent that i can’t place, but overall her rendition of Delphi City was a little dry. I’m hoping she picks up the pace in the next book. The true heart of this review is the book itself. Bob Blanton reveals an extraordinary tale of what truly driven people without greed and personal power drives can accomplish with the advent of technology. He ratchets up the suspense by having four of the original ships crew awake from stasis and two escape. My disappointment is that then the author drops that story line completely. The crew search for the two escapees in the stolen spaceship’s largest plane, but they’ve dropped off the face of the world. They’re not mentioned again. I know they’ll appear in the coming book but shouldn’t they have been mentioned at least in the Board Meetings? Overall, once I became adjusted to the cadence of the narrator, I really enjoyed the book. And of course I’m buying the next book to see how a space station is built by a private enterprise with “alien” tech. The two brothers have come a long way, baby!

kinda good kinda meh

Guess I can start with the good.
-the premice is great, I'm sure many have had the idea of what would I do if I found an alien starship. Most of us would want to improve life here on Earth.
aaaaand that's about it for the good.

Now for the meh (read bad)
- narrator...OMFG, if it wasn't for the fact that I'm an insomniac, I would have fallen asleep within 20 minutes. To say that a computer has more emotional range is a massive understatement. Zero accent and extreme minimum of Inflection. Someone should inform the narrator that deepening her voice half the time for the male characters throws off her flow. Just don't do it at all.
-Characters. There is no life in them, with the exception of Catie. The entire cast has absolutely no emotional range, like you're talking to a computer. Bland doesn't begin to describe them. (read above narrator) Now for the only character with an ounce of life....I'm not going to call her what she is, but it rhymes with Barry Blue. who ever told the author that making a 13 year old be better than everyone at everything when those others have been doing said jobs for decades needs to just not. Everyone looks for easier ways to accomplish tasks, and making her the ONLY person who would think "HMMM PERHAPS I COULD ASK THE SUPER SMART COMPUTER IF THERE WAS AN EASIER WAY TO DO THIS" breaks the immersion the reader has and the author is trying to develop.
-Last thing, no one has anything resembling a set back, emotional, or physical issues that would depend the story. Yes I know they fixed it in the same chapter and with ZERO problems.

THE ONLY REASON THIS GOT 2 STARS IS BECAUSE THE PREMICE IS COOL. Save your credits. I won't be wasting another on the next book.

Obnoxious daughter

The daughter is constantly whining and begging and immature sure she is intelligent but she is no where near as mature as the other characters are constantly saying she is. The fact that they let her do ANYTHING she wants is annoying.

All-around good, except child drug use

True, there is not much action, but great progression of the story. Too much action has ruined other stories because they couldn't produce a believable timeline and lost track of details in the natural growing complexity of a story. I hope that this story goes a long time.

The only truly bad thing in the overall story line is the 13-year-old using drugs regularly and with supervision, while contrastingly supposed smart and talent professionally as if she were 25. This is outrageously stupid.

Too much talking, not enough action

This one was difficult to listen to. lots and lots and lots of talking. Every detail was dealt with in lengthy exposition. it didn't help that the narrator speaks in a dull monotone and is difficult to listen to. there is very little that took place in that in this book and very little action. I do not recommend this book.

A great read!

As a mad sci-fi fan, this story arc is right up my alley! The characters are well developed, and I think the issues that they deal with are all within the bounds of reality.
Once you read the first book, you just can’t stop!
