Publisher's summary

History is on repeat, and things didn't go so well the last time.

Alexandria isn’t sure she’s going to make it to her 18th birthday - to her Awakening. A long-forgotten, fanatical order is out to kill her, and if the Council ever discovers what she did in the Catskills, she’s a goner…and so is Aiden.

If that’s not freaky enough, whenever Alex and Seth spend time "training" - which really is just Seth's code word for some up-close and personal one-on-one time - she ends up with another mark of the Apollyon, which brings her one step closer to Awakening ahead of schedule. Awesome.

But as her birthday draws near, her entire world shatters with a startling revelation and she’s caught between love and Fate. One will do anything to protect her. One has been lying to her since the beginning. Once the gods have revealed themselves, unleashing their wrath, lives will be irrevocably changed…and destroyed. Those left standing will discover if love is truly greater than Fate...

Whiney heroine

I really like the story but man does the heroine go on my nerves. She never learns, never gets better, just keeps on making the same dumb mistakes acting the same dumb childish way and everybody just forgives her and loves her despite of it. Gah.
All other characters are great. I mean don't get me wrong I like when the main character is human and well, not perfect but there comes a point where I wish somebody would smack her and tell her to grow up or well, die and get replaced :-) seriously.

It got my attention....

This series has a bad wrap because the plot like is similar to Vampire Academy series. Yes the series does have similarities, but it break off into its own story. This series is about a hidden society of Greek Gods and their descendants ( I'm a huge fan of Greek mythology). Within the society there is a political cast system with pure blood descendants as the ruling class and the half-blood descendants as the lesser class of guards or servants for the pure bloods. It is law that there cannot be any relations between any pure bloods and half-bloods, any that are caught it is punishable by death. We have our 17 teen year old heroine Alexandria who is a half-blood in school training to be sentinel guard. Trying to catch up in school to graduate after being absent for 3 years while on the run with her mother, gorgeous pure-blood sentinel Aidan agrees to train her. The couple has to fight their forbidden attraction and Alex slowly finds out why her mother was trying to hide her from the covenant, Alex is slated to become the most powerful weapon in their world, but she isn't alone there is another that can harness the same power. Deity kept my attention and it ends in a cliffhanger and I already pre-ordered the next one.

Didn’t Love It

I have enjoyed the series, but in this book Alex really started to get on my nerves. It’s one thing to be confident and tough, but she started acting so defiant towards people, especially Apollo, which is supposed to be a god. She was way too stubborn. I don’t think she deserved Aiden.

It seems like Jennifer writes all her characters the same way. I’ve read a bunch of her books, and the female lead has the same personality in most of them.

Justine’s voice can get aggravating at times as well because she has this gravelly sound to it. I can’t stand the way she does the male voices. They all sound the same.

Awful Narrator

I love Jennifer Armentrout’s books and have read the Covenant series before. I was busy with chores so thought I would finish it on audible. I could not get through the first chapter. The narration is AWFUL. So whiny, breathy and weak. The accents are also bad. Totally had to stop listening. I went back to the actual book that is a 5 star!!! I’m bummed I wasted my money on the audible version.

So Much Chaos and Distrust

Alex can’t figure out if she likes Seth or not. Feelings are there, but she loves Aiden. So much banter between the three. There’s a deceiver among them that will soon come to light. Who could it be? Surely no one close to Alex. She’s been through so much even dying from a guard’s blade. No one can be trusted. Her awakening is coming with her birthday around the corner. Can she take all the power or will Seth drain her?

More annoying than the last book

So I'm obsessed with this series, I can't lie.

And while I'm 30 and not the 14-17 age demographic this series targets, I really like it! It's a good story line and has some great characters.

But sweet jesus on a bicycle, the back and forth between seth and aiden is just ridiculous. I'm all for a love triangle I GUESS but this one dragged on way more than necessary. Like, to a truly annoying and ridiculous level. If I wasn't a mythology fantasy autistic, I would've DNF'd this book solely based on the amount of time alex whines about aiden, whom she shouldn't be with due to safety, and seth, whom she is "fated" to be with but is only very rarely even nice to her.

Aiden is 20-21 and she's 17. Why is this not creepy? He's literally grooming her. Not only that, it really grinds my gears that he calls her agape mu or whatever the eff like EVERY time they have a moment and she doesn't ever ask what it is until the end even though it's freaking obvious what it means. But if he's so fluent as to throw in a greek endearment, why is it difficult for him to read the text? Whatever. But she thinks anything he does is perfect when he's definitely not. Tell me why Seth torturing Telly because he tried to kill alex is a big deal but Aiden torturing Eric for Alex AND HIMSELF isn't? It's the same thing except by her own definition, Eric couldn't have helped what he did because he was a demon and Telly wasn't so he should be blamed. Also why is she so obsessed with the stupid necklace?! It's not a big deal!!

And that's not to say I'm a Seth fan. He's annoying. For a while there, I definitely was team Seth, but it became clear he was using her and lying all the time. While I'm a big fan of the devotion he has for her, he's clearly not treating her like an equal. He's also the same age as Aiden, so also very groomy.

This book could've been cut in half if instead of the stupid back and forth between boys and their jealousy, alex would've just been heartbroken about the fact that she and aiden clearly love each other but can't be together because of the order. That would've made a lot of sense and would've been great. Still would've had the heartache, she still could've turned to Seth as a friend bc of their connection, etc. everything would've gone down the same way. But it was unnecessary and took away a lot from the book and from Alex herself.

Also that like four gods come after her and have this little chit chat during the middle of a fight? Right out of a bad wattpad fanfic.

That ending, though. Chef's kiss. Literally about to tear into the next book. I'm in love.

The narration is, as always, horrendous. Can't tell the difference between Seth and Telly, the over pronunciation of every word makes me want to h@ng myself, and every male voice she does is so disgusting that it's hard not to hate the male characters by default. I genuinely have no idea how in the world she landed a job with a five book deal, it's awful. I hate every word that comes out of her mouth.

This got interesting

Okay so I almost gave up from book 1 not because of the story but more because of the narrator. Her voice is a little one not and I feel like there are places where she needs to be excited or amused and places where she needs to be sad and angry but it’s all just the same tone no matter what.

With that being said I stuck with it and very glad I did. I love the story, love Aiden and Alex. Can’t stand Seth. Seems like a dipshit who I didn’t trust from jump and that was definitely accurate. Don’t even care if he is redeemed. I hope Lucien dies a horrible death. Love Apollo and Marcus being more than the stick in the ass person behind a desk I’m here for it.
