Publisher's Summary

Love is the best defense in New York Times bestselling author Susan Stoker’s explosive Mountain Mercenaries novel.

Gorgeous women don’t just stumble onto Ronan Cross’s remote property. But this one - vulnerable, victimized, and needing the kind of help only Ronan can offer - tells a story that makes his blood boil almost as hot as his need to protect her.

Since her father’s death, Chloe Harris has become a prisoner. Her own brother, a flesh peddler and low-level player in the Denver Mafia, is forcing her to sell her body for an endgame Chloe never saw coming: control over a vast fortune. Her only way out is to run - straight into the arms of the one hard-bodied man she can trust.

Defending Chloe could rain punishment down on the Mountain Mercenaries. Her brother has Mob connections and the local police in his pocket. But Ronan still has an edge - the unshakable loyalty of his deadly teammates. As well as an unquenchable thirst for retribution…and Chloe.

Great romance!

Another exciting story by Susan Stoker! The heroine in this story is Chloe, who is the daughter of a wealthy man. When her father is murdered, she loses her job and winds up living back at home with her brother who has taken over the family business. After things begin deteriorating when she doesn’t marry any of her brothers friends, he starts forcing her to work in his strip club. The hero meets her when she stumbles to his home one night and asks for the phone to call a ride. He just can’t stop thinking about her and the big bruise she had on her back. When he decides to try to make sure she’s ok, he finds her at the club and finds out she’s being forced to work there against her will. The men of the Mountain Mercenaries go to rescue her. Add in the mafia, her greedy brother and an unknown inheritance and it makes for a lively story. Narration was well done.

Stoker is good for a light read.

I enjoyed this story, much more because of the narrator who maintained if not completely accurate accents, at least consistent. Good inflections.

As for the author, I always have a bit of a hard time recommending Stoker's books because--as much as I enjoy them for snack-type books--they are hard to totally relax with since she has holes. She repeats things in the same book many times, and then says things from a previous book but incorrectly so you're all "NO! You said ____ not ___ and how you've retold it in this book changes the entire last book. ARG".

I think she just needs a good editor. For ALL of her stories.

That said, I really like the stories. I just have to remind myself to take them as good drama, good ideas, not the greatest execution, and when writing problems occur I simply pretend it didn't' happen--like one does for a bad episode of a favourite show. lol

Tacky Sex

Story was predictable but ok. Tacky crude sex scenes and they went on way to long

Susan Stoker Does It Again!

I just loved the storyline of "Defending Chloe." It was Original, different, in a League of it's Own.
That's what I really love about Susan Stoker's books. And she manages to get narrators; like Stella Bloom, to bring the storyline to life.
I'm ready for the next book in this Series.

Horrible. Couldn’t finish it.

Argh, the worst part of this book is that Audible thinks I like books like this and keeps recommending them.
Sexist and stupid. Even if someone were wanting to read a modern day trashy bodice ripper, this is not it.

Wonderful!

I was looking forward to this book! I was curious about the Mafia mix and I was not disappointed. A lot of action and suspense and terrible family :)
I loved hearing Stella Bloom do Rowan’s accent. That was amazing! She does a wonderful job. Well actually even Rex’s robot voice as well.

Terrible narrator. Great story.

I would like to give this story 5 stars. The storyline was great and that is the only reason I forced myself to listen to it. Why write great books then use bad narrators.
