Story
For a moment Wilson froze and looked at the white-helmeted pilot who sat high on the nose of the colossal fighter. Across the small void, he saw the pilot's eyes peer over his mask. Dark, chilling eyes. Wilson kicked right rudder to slide closer and jam any chance for a bandit gunshot. When the bandit pulled all the way over, almost on its back but in control, he cursed in frustration at what he knew was coming next.

Story
In the desolate middle of the largest ocean on earth, two great navies approached, one bent on conclusive battle, the other lying in ambush. Six months after Pearl Harbor, Yamamoto again crossed the Pacific with the largest and most powerful naval armada the world had ever seen, this time to finish the job. Nimitz waited for him with what he had, placed exactly where he needed it. Both admirals depended on their fliers, some veterans of battle, others raw and unproven. Striking first meant decisive victory.

The United States is under attack. From the sea and the sky, the devastating attacks come, crippling the US military's ability to respond. Thousands have been killed and injured. For President Cord Macklin, this is the greatest challenge of his life, greater than risking his life in the skies over Vietnam and greater than guiding the country through some of the most trying times. But none has been more trying than this. Below the sea, a predator stalks the pride of America's Navy: its aircraft carriers. Deadly and silent, this killer seems able to elude all efforts to find it.

Marine pilot Brad Austin and his carrier-based F-4 Phantom group fly into the heart of enemy territory daily without fear, but the rules of engagement hinder them nearly as much as the North Vietnamese. Restricted from attacking the enemy's MiG bases, Austin and the other American pilots are vulnerable to attack without the ability to retaliate, a weakness that tragically leads to the death of Austin's wingman. Consumed by the need to avenge his comrade, Austin goes one-on-one with the enemy in a battle that ultimately proves in war there can be no rules.

TO MY MIND
- By Kevin on 11-28-18
By: Joe Weber
Publisher's summary
Wilson shot a glance over his right shoulder at San Ramon. In addition to the blinking of anti-aircraft artillery guns, he could see clouds of smoke on the field from the numerous Slash hits. Breathing through his mouth, he concentrated on getting fast and maintaining a slight climb. Bright fireballs of AAA shot by him in groups of three and four, orderly trails from low to high. His body was tense, ready for impact. He felt and heard the thud behind, on his right. Terrified, he twisted his body in the ejection seat to see what he could, pushing his helmet and goggles with his left hand to see over his wing. Through the narrow field of view of the goggles, he sensed flickering behind him. He then felt the airplane yaw right. Both were signs he had lost thrust on the right side. Sonofabitch!

chill with the religion
As someone whos served in the navy the sheer colume of prayer and religion is overboard. In my 8 years on navy vessels there are far more nonreligious people then religious. The evening prayers aboard are loathed by all and quite annoying. The other problem is how wilson talks about the enlisted personnel like there some cheery go lucky group always happy to serve is completely off the mark. Goes to show the disconnect officers have of actual enlisted duties. In truth they loath the officers and all the luxuries they're offered and quite often have to deal with stupidity on extreme levels when dealing with them. Also, any catholic priest sent to the jungle of south America would have been sent there for molesting children, you know, like they actually do in real life.

Another excellent military thriller
A great read if limited in scope. The book touches on some ancillary topics but focuses mainly on events surrounding carrier operations and it's personnel. It would have been a better read if additional political aspects were addressed such as details on the Venezuelan government or the US congress which was apparently in recess while an undeclared war was prosecuted.
Still, Capt MIller is a master story teller and I enjoyed the book very much, particularly the detailed technical descriptions of carrier operations and aircraft.

A Second gripping read from Kevin Miller
Plenty of excitement for those who love naval/military fiction. This book, like the first in the series, is filled with exciting combat scenes, along with the everyday personalities in ships and squadrons that cross over into how military personnel perform under the stress of adversity. This adds a level of reality that is not found in many books of this genre.
The narration is also excellent, and I recall none of the "annoying" mispronunciations of ships and/or locations in this audiobook.

In the fall of 1978, Ray Ordorica packed everything he thought he would need into his Toyota LandCruiser and drove north to Alaska. He came to a land he had never seen, to find something he wasn't even sure existed: a wilderness cabin he could use for a year or more to live, think, relax, read, and write. Ordorica found his cabin, fixed it up, and, although it was just an un-insulated 12- by 16-foot one-room log structure, he spent three winters in it in relative comfort.

Story
It's Ruwen’s Ascension Day, and he finally dies for the first time. His newly revived body can learn spells and abilities for the class given him by the Goddess Uru, and dying is no longer permanent. Ruwen’s high intelligence makes becoming a Mage inevitable. With his new powers, he will locate his parents and clear their family name. But nothing goes as Ruwen imagined, and when a rival God tries to kill Ruwen shortly after his disastrous Ascension, his focus turns from his future to just surviving.

Story
With its quaint villages, local restaurants serving up lobster rolls, and miles and miles of warm, sandy beaches, Cape Cod, Massachusetts, is famous for being America’s carefree seaside getaway. But in August 2012, the first confirmed shark attack in almost eighty years occurred in the region. As shark sightings quickly began to increase on Cape Cod and elsewhere and large beachside billboards warning about the growing shark population became a common sight, a boogie boarder died after being attacked by a great white shark in Cape Cod’s shallow waters.

Story
In the fall of 1978, Ray Ordorica packed everything he thought he would need into his Toyota LandCruiser and drove north to Alaska. He came to a land he had never seen, to find something he wasn't even sure existed: a wilderness cabin he could use for a year or more to live, think, relax, read, and write. Ordorica found his cabin, fixed it up, and, although it was just an un-insulated 12- by 16-foot one-room log structure, he spent three winters in it in relative comfort.
