Publisher's Summary

Every parent wants the best for their child.

That’s why they send them to college! But most parents struggle to pay for school and end up turning to student loans. That’s why the majority of graduates walk away with $35,000 in student loan debt and no clue what that debt will really cost them.

Student loan debt doesn’t open doors for young adults - it closes them. They postpone getting married and starting a family. That debt even takes away their freedom to pursue their dreams. But there is a different way. Going to college without student loans is possible!

In Debt-Free Degree, Anthony ONeal teaches parents how to get their child through school without debt, even if they haven’t saved for it. He also shows parents:

  • How to prepare their child for college
  • Which classes to take in high school
  • How and when to take the ACT and SAT
  • The right way to do college visits
  • How to choose a major

A college education is supposed to prepare a graduate for their future, not rob them of their paycheck and freedom for decades. Debt-Free Degree shows parents how to pay cash for college and set their child up to succeed for life.

Overall, great information

I read this because I heard Dave Ramsey speaking with Anthony on his show and thought it would help me learn more about how to pay for college. I am 24 year old mother and non-traditional student.

Although this did not help me much, it did help me figure out how to tackle this experience with my son someday as he gets closer to college age. Anthony's website is helpful and has many resources for college.

Maybe Anthony can come up with an adult or non-traditional student book?

Regardless, it was a informative read for those with children.

Hard to listen...

The book was informative for someone who had no prior knowledge of the college application process. Having two children that have already been through college, I don’t feel like he provided any new ideas for paying for college. Also, the reader did a terrible job of reading this book. Throughout the whole book, he used inflection on words that he would never emphasize in a normal conversation. It was really hard to listen to this book. I was disappointed.

Very Insightful and Helpful!!

Anthony O'Neal does a fantastic job delivering his message to students & parents of how to navigate through choosing a 4 year college without becoming a slave to the lender! I wish this information was shared back in my senior year of high school! Thank you Anthony!! I highly recommend this book!!!

Great for Parents, Okay for Adults

I was listening to a podcast where they spoke about debt free college where this book got recommend. It’s wonderfully curated, and an amazing tool for adults looking to help guide their children through college. If you’re wanting a book like that, then this is your book to read!

I’m 28 out of high school since 2009 and trying to go back to college and stay debt free. I was hoping that this book would help me come up with a plan on how exactly to do that. Despite it being more geared toward parents, I did learn a lot that I’ll be using toward my debt free education... but I only wish there were more guidance for adults as well not just children. I’m still thankful I got this book and will be referencing this again as I try to attend college debt free.

Good info if you’ve never thought about this

Was expecting more but still an okay book. If you follow Dave Ramsey, you probably won’t learn anything new.

Like and dislike

I would highly recommend this book to any parents and students thinking about embarking the college world... but I would suggest getting the book rather than the audio.
I purchased this audio because I trust the source (Dave Ramsey). I thought the content was excellent and it is truly abundant in knowledge... BUT... the audio is terrible. I have never heard Anthony speak. I have heard that he is a good public speaker so I was very disappointed with how he narrated this book. He just came across as if English is not his first language and as if he just learned to read for the first time. His voice overtone and diction was so forced. Very disappointing.
Anthony please hire someone to read your future books. If Max Lucado can have 2 excellent individuals read his books then you can too.
Other than that, content was excellent and I still plan on buying the hard copy as Christmas presents.

Awesome

As a 21 year old wanting to go back to school this book has been revolutionary. While it is geared at parents of middle and high school students, the overarching themes have made me completely rethink how and where I should go back to school. I am now excited to plan ahead to go back to school in the next couple years and pay cash!
